The hostel is stunning. Lovely bedroom and bathroom, beautiful building. The place could be exceptional if it had a friendly staff presence.

I asked on whatsapp before we stayed if there was a card surcharge, and the hostel assured me that there was no price increase paying on a card. Our booking was $46. When we arrived there was no one at the hostel. We had to wait for another guest to leave to be able to get in. Finally someone let us in the room but didn't do any check-in chat or take payment. Later I got a WhatsApp message sending me the payment link for $49. I replied that the price was $46 so could they amend the link, as I'd already checked we wouldn't be charged more. He said that was an AI assistant on the WhatsApp, not a real person. I think if they are going to use AI, they have to honour what it tells guests. So I insisted we only pay $46. He said we could pay cash in Bolivianos but asked for 457 BOB. I checked on xe.com and he was asking for $20 more than our reservation ($66 rather than $46), just to pay in the local currency. I obviously refused and we finally paid the $46 via a new link. The place itself is incredible and we would have extended our stay, but didn't want to after this. It's such a shame as the hostel is gorgeous, but they need to do better with honouring the payment set out on booking.com. We've paid for other reservations in USD in Bolivia as it's fairly common for them to ask for this currency, but asking for half the reservation price on top of the actual cost just to pay in BOB is completely unacceptable. We also never saw a staff member ever throughout the rest of our stay, just an empty desk at the door.
