The Editory Ocean Way Funchal

Our stay at The Editory Ocean Way started with a bump but all in all was a fantastic holiday. The hotel opened in February and our stay in July was impeccably clean, the staff were super friendly and helpful, the facilities were beautiful and classy. The breakfast was meticulous and varied everyday with to order counter providing great options. The rooftop bar and pool are a great addition with a good but not great view. The bump was because we booked through Agoda. We got a very nice room but it was the room with the worst view and it was a twin not a double bed as requested. The room is right above the hotel entrance and smoking area and noisy in the mornings with street traffic. They tried to help us with this booking, tried to get us a better room on a high floor, but in our wait, the only other available room (lower floor but still looking the right way) was booked by a walk in, and we only managed to get the room we wanted on the last night. They apologised profusely and gave us complimentary drinks and a discount on spa treatments. The room we had for the 4 nights was adequate but not matching the price point, hence 4/5 on value. There are only a handful of rooms facing the same way as that room and they are all the 101, 201, 301 etc. avoid if possible. A sea view room is not one of these rooms. The hotel is bit out the way. We hired a car and had no problems parking it out front on the street parking. All in all a great stay only marred by the room we were given on arrival due to booking through Agoda, they said they will try to fix it with Agoda but who knows.

Very nice hotel with beautiful design and great comfort. The room was modern, very clean and the bed was big and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful — especially Mikaela, who helped me a lot and answered all my questions. Breakfast was really good, high quality food and a good start to the day. I enjoyed the sauna and the heated indoor pool with water pressure features. The rooftop area was also a highlight, with a lovely sea view and comfortable seating. Wi-Fi was fast and reliable throughout the stay. Only suggestion for improvement would be slightly longer opening hours for the heated indoor pool. Overall, a great stay and I would definitely recommend this hotel.
