About this house rental
This picturesque single-family home has been recently renovated, skillfully preserving the distinctive features of the seaside village of Gioiosa Marea where it is located. It is framed by majestic, stately 19th-century palaces that enhance its beauty without detracting from its character as a typical home originally built as a residence for fishermen—a trade that was one of the most thriving in the area until just a few decades ago. Located just a short walk from the beautiful sandy beach and the crystal-clear sea, as well as from the town center—where you can sample traditional Sicilian dishes and enjoy the unique atmosphere of a town that, despite the passage of time, continues to preserve its original architectural character. Surrounded by open spaces, cobblestone alleys, and lava-stone stairways, the house offers a spectacular view of the sea, the Aeolian Islands, and the enchanting, evocative sunset, which, plunging into the crystal-clear waters, bathes the entire town in a deep red glow, creating a truly unique scene.
The house consists of a spacious living room with an open-concept kitchen, a double bedroom, and a bathroom with a shower. The rooms are furnished, among other things, with antique furniture and furnishings of great value and exquisite taste, creating a particularly warm and welcoming atmosphere.
During the winter months, from November through February, the house is ideal for those who suffer from allergies. During this period, discounts are available for guests planning to stay for more than a week.
Gioiosa Marea
On the Tyrrhenian coast (70 km from Messina), lies the seaside resort of Gioiosa Marea, which, thanks to its privileged elevation above sea level, offers breathtaking views of the vast expanse of the sea. Restaurants, bars, and shops are scattered throughout the lively streets and picturesque alleys that wind through the town. There are numerous points of interest: the small municipal antiquarium is right in the town center; it is dedicated to the archaeological site of Gioiosa Guardia, a protohistoric settlement that was gradually Hellenized. The artifacts on display document all phases of the settlement’s history: from the protohistoric period to the Greek era. Also worth visiting are the Grotte del Tono, whose interiors are filled with stalactites and stalagmites—still forming today—in the strangest shapes and of extraordinary beauty. It is well worth taking a hike to visit the archaeological excavations at Gioiosa Guardia: on the northeastern slope of Monte Meliuso in Gioiosa Guardia, two excavation campaigns conducted in 1981 and 1982 led to the discovery of a settlement of considerable importance. To the east of Gioiosa Marea, beyond the rock of Capo Calavà, lies the Contrada di San Giorgio, where—even before the founding of Gioiosa Guardia—people led a seafaring life centered on fishing: in fact, the history of the Contrada di San Giorgio is inextricably linked to that of its tuna fishery (Tonnara), which has been documented since the 12th century.
