Diya Bed and Breakfast

The room was lovely. It was clean, quiet, and comfortable able. The shower was hot. The breakfast was decent.

The place is in a pretty dodgy neighborhood. You have to walk up an alley to get to the hotel. Definitely not a place for a single woman to arrive at night.

Danish is an outstanding host, and has an excellent, amiable staff who see to your needs, including an amazing breakfast: lots of fruit, hot, delicious parathas, toast and jam, yogurt, and fresh juice. Plus chair or coffee. The bnb is artfully appointed, with tastefully-selected images on the walls.

Although the gali that leads to Diya BnB is narrow (as is characteristic of Paharganj, which is this area of New Delhi), the location is excellent, not far from the New Delhi Railway Station and Connaught Place (Rajiv Chowk).

Danish and the others were all extremely helpful, always cheerful, and full of information about Delhi sights, restaurants, and transport. Open the front door, and the bnb is an oasis amidst the narrow, bustling lanes of Paharganj. It's also quite close to the New Delhi Railway Station.

Cleanliness of the accommodation interior

Lots of things. 1. Diya offered a taxi pick up from the station to which we agreed, it was just a taxi flagged at the airport. We later realised the amount charged for this journey was hugely excessive (INR2000). 2. The room was very dark and very little air. 3. Despite building on its association with street children charity, other than 1 photo on the wall, this was not apparent and neither did anyone offer any service such as the walking tour which we had read about on Booking.com or suggestions of what to see etc. It was very hands off. 3. The backstreet on whch Diya is set is very dirty and unhygienic, even outside the entry to Diya. It is full of filth and awfully unpleasant to walk down. We left after 2 nights despite paying for 3 and moved to a better property in terms of location and facilities- I am so glad I did. I wouldn't stay there again.
