Villa Rosa

Could not recommend Villa Rosa highly enough. Our host was wonderful answering questions promptly in advance, providing clear instructions for arrival, helping during our stay with local recommendations of things to see and do and even making local restaurant bookings on our behalf as our Portugese isn't the best. Muito obrigado Fernando! The accomodation itself was of a very high standard. When we arrived it was dark but what a lovely surprise we had the first morning waking to stunning views of the surrounding hills accompanied by the clucking of hens and birdsong. Idyllic for a peaceful vacation. Our 4 kids were each delighted to have a double-room ensuite all to themselves with their own air-conditioning. Outside, the sun-lovers followed the sun around the garden all day making the most of the various deck-chairs and hammocks. The non sun-lovers were equally happy lazing with a book under the many beautiful lime, pear and persimmon trees or taking refuge in the family room with a huge TV. Needless to say the pool table was also a big hit as well as the apricot doughnuts in the bakery 1 minute walk around the corner! While we were there primarily to relax for a week, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip around the tower and old town of Melgaco and the forest boardwalk down by the river Minho. We did also make a few longer trips - over to the stunning beaches and fort of Vigo (1 hour) and down to the famous Livraria Lello in Porto (2 hours). If we could have stayed longer we would have loved to visit a few of the other local recommendations from the wine museum in Melgaco to the nearby thermal spa and more of the many wonderful hiking trails in the surrounding hills. Ah well we'll just have to go back...

Very little! The pool was small but we knew this in advance so it was not a big deal.
