Nice stay with a centre hall

First of all, the address listed on Agoda is incorrect – make sure you search for The Jewel Hotelon Google Maps to find the right location. The main issue, and what I would call a real scam, is the deposit policy. When we arrived early in the morning to leave our bags (before check-in), the first receptionist informed us that a 20 Bahraini Dinar deposit (around €50) was required. This information was never mentioned anywhere during the booking process. Even worse, the deposit must be paid in cash and is supposedly returned in cash as well. When I asked if I could pay by card, I was first told “no, it’s not possible, you can just withdraw the cash and spend it later”. I explained that we were staying less than 24 hours and had no intention of withdrawing cash. Only then did the receptionist admit that card payment was possible — but warned me that “refunds don’t always go through”, implying that I might never get my money back. Essentially, they were asking me to take responsibility for their broken refund process, which is unacceptable. Later, at check-in, despite our short stay (we were leaving that same night), they still insisted on the deposit. The two receptionists even had to call the General Manager to confirm that a refund to the card was possible — which is absurd, since this should be standard procedure and clearly understood by front desk staff. In the end, exhausted by the situation, I paid the deposit by card and made sure to get it back in cash upon check-out, simply because I didn’t trust that the refund would ever be processed. The hotel is conveniently located to explore different areas of the city, and the pool area is very nice. The room is huge, well-equipped (just note that the power outlets are not international), and generally comfortable. However, there are two nightclubs located on either side of the hotel, so be prepared to hear very loud music and bass all night long. Overall, the room and pool were nice, but the deposit scam and unprofessional handling by the staff completely ruined the experience. I would not recommend this hotel, especially for short stays or travelers who don’t want to deal with unnecessary stress and unclear policies.
