Villa Rouga

This is a truly authentic experience - a home full of heritage details and obviously much loved and lived in. The switch-back turns and parking are not for the faint hearted but the views and village setting make up for it. Stunning sunrises and sunsets over Vathy. Wonderful local walks on goat tracks to an ancient church with medieval wall paintings or on to the cave of nymphs. Two excellent local tavernas a couple of minutes walk away and a village wine festival made for fun nights out. The days were spent on superb beaches with excellent snorkelling, beach bars, shade and easy access. Lots of local wildlife: birds of prey, bee-eaters, praying mantis, butterflies etc. The hosts (and extended family) could not have been more helpful.

The property would not suit the very old or young, or those wanting to spend a day at the villa as there were limited places to relax in the shade, though a lovely outside eating area under a grape vine was super for meals and games. The pool development was interesting to see and will certainly enhance the property for our next stay.
