11 Mi to Troy University: Family Home w/ Yard

Overall the house is nice. Updated with newer furnishings. The house was pretty clean and spacious. The location is away from the the city which is good as it’s relatively quiet. But the house sits on a busy road so you can hear large trucks passing by at 55mph+. The towels/washcloths were not typical for a newer rental. Most were mismatched and various odds and ends that look like a relative cleaned out a closet of old towels & gave them to the owner to use. For the price of the rental, guests expect nicer towels. Also the sheets didn’t fit the beds very well, were very cheap feeling, and the mattress pads were practically non-existent. The biggest problem was the owner of the rental showing up unannounced at 10am on Saturday morning. He didn’t even identify himself when we opened the front door. He didn’t ring the doorbell or knock – he just honked in the driveway then got out of his car and stood on the porch (which anyone standing there can see inside because the door allows you to see in). As my niece was waiting for a friend to drop something off for her, she first thought it was her friend. But then she saw a strange man standing there & called for her uncle to come to the door. He claimed he had recently stayed at the rental and “left some important papers in a kitchen drawer” that he needed. Based on his initial story, we thought he was a renter who had just checked out of the rental the previous day and came back to retrieve his items. My husband went to the kitchen drawer & retrieved a legal pad the man described & asked him did he enjoy his stay during his rental. The owner still did not identify himself and finally when my husband asked again his impression of the rental, only then the guy finally stated “oh I own this place”. We were pretty shocked how he would not only show up unannounced but also not even identify himself when showing up at his rental while guests were staying there. As he had my phone number/contact information, he could have easily called or texted to ask if he could come by if it was so important. We ended up calling the property management company due to the fact this encounter was so random and intrusive to our stay. While the property management company apologized and indicated that it wasn’t acceptable behavior for the owner, we still question the whole story. The owner never apologized for showing up like that nor gave an explanation why that happened. As a result, I wouldn’t stay here again nor recommend it.
