左京山SAkyozan - Your Private Retreat in HidaTakayama

Wowza! This is a sleek, -comfortable- western style house built and furnished with modern Japanese wood paneling and furnishings. Many Japanese houses are uncomfortable for westerners staying longer than a few days. This house is one that we could have happily stayed in for weeks! Plenty of comfortable couches, a beautiful rustic wooden dining table with comfortable chairs, big soft beds. Every room has large windows with views of the trees surrounding the house or of the quiet street out front and the surrounding traditional houses. It was so very peaceful to sit and look out the windows while reading after a day of walking around the town. The large open kitchen is fully equipped to make simple meals and the open island between the kitchen and dining room encouraged conversation and cooperation making and cleaning up for meals. The soaking tub was something we all Enjoyed at the end of the day. It automatically fills at a preset temperature, making it easy to start up and return to for a soak before bedtime. The washer/dryer was a big plus, keeping us looking as nice as this house looks! :) Our hostess, Harumi, was super helpful! She provided us with customized maps showing us where the festival events would be occurring near the house and the approximate times, gave us helpful tips on operating the equipment in the house, and was available via WhatsApp for questions. The thoughtful explanations provided in person and with little notes around the house were helpful and appreciated. The supplied drinks, snacks, abundance of towels, and nicely scented bath supplies were so welcoming after a long day of travel. The house is set on a quiet shaded hilly street immediately next to the Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine, which is where the Takayama Autumn Festival starts and ends at. The house is a perfect location for enjoying the Autumn Festival!

The interior décor showcases traditional Japanese woodworking craftsmanship and features a large collection of locally made Hida wood furniture. The kitchen is excellent, and the bathroom and toilet facilities are very comfortable. The host is also extremely warm and welcoming to guests — a perfect choice to stay!

Nous avons passé un séjour en famille avec nos 2 enfants. La maison est super bien placé dans le quartier historique de Takayama. Temples restaurants, balades, tout se fait à pied. La maison est équipée de matériaux haut de gamme. Sobre, épuré, confortable 👍 Harumi est une hôte très gentille, à l’écoute et nous préparer pleins de suggestions. Très bonne expérience que nous recommandons vivement 😊
