As well as two friendly village pubs, one serving food, St John's Chapel offers a Post Office, a shop and a couple of cafés. The nearby market town of Stanhope sits on the fringes of the AONB and offers a wider choice of amenities and an outdoor pool. The magnificent city of Durham is slightly further afield but well worth a visit, laced with tremendous architecture and much to see and do.
