Comfy enough with decent inclusions. It was an interesting place in a working class neighbourhood close to the centre pf the city. Authentic patinas with some charming details. The side of China we're constantly told in the West has disappeared. Glad that I got to see and experience a real and storied side of Shanghai before it is gentrified and sanitised beyond recognition.

Would I stay here again? Hmm... I'd definitely return to Shanghai! It was VERY hard to find in the dark and then being messaged by the host requesting I explain why I had changed the thermostat on the aircon late at night made me feel somewhat under surveillance (and the lack of the host's self-awareness that it my be perceived as spying to have a remote alert set up and to then make it known to their guest immediately??). The air pollution was woeful so wasn't opening a window. What business is it of anyone's anyway?! Bed and pillows seemed a little old and not thoroughly clean. Lighting too starkly bright and wrong colour temp. Overall impression of the interior was amateur DIY. Between being purely a means of making money or providing stylish comfort with pride, I'd say the purpose of this accommodation is to function as the former. At leat it wasn't camping but not too far off. Not being able to pay or cancel in advance is a thing in some countries but Booking.com should require it as an option from all hotels/hosts as difficulties with post pay options can make guests feel like they're being held to ransom. I already felt watched and the idea of having difficulty with leaving the country if my accomodation payment didn't clear in time made for a nerve-racking rather than overly positive first impression of Shanghai.

The room was located in a pretty central area, although the building itself looks quite outdated. However, the apartment looks nice inside and it's good value for money.

There was no washing machine as mentioned in the description and it didn't look 100% like in the pictures. There was a projector but no account logged in so unfortunately could not make use of it.

We had a good stay. The bed was good. We did enjoy the atmosphere of being in a local residency. The location is good.

I did not find the room as it was in the images on booking.com. I proposed the owners to update the room or the images on the site of booking.com. A shoehorn would have been nice. Also more cups and a bottle of water. Things to hang washed clothes on. A working TV. The shower did not drain well. The entrance to the room is not up to standard. I guess people expect a safe and clean passage from the street to the room. The owner said he would improve on these points and update the images to reflect the current status of the room.
