Captain's House

We had a lovely two night stay at Captain’s house right on the edge of the river. The family who run the accommodation are so friendly and welcoming! We appreciated the croissant, coffee and banana for breakfast, and the use of the kayaks and sun beds in the afternoon. It was clean and comfortable and a short walk away from restaurants for dinner (as they only serve light snacks - do try the meat byrek)!

There is only one male and female bathroom, which is shared and got a little busy in the morning if everyone is getting the 7am boat out. It wasn’t an issue for us but if you are looking for a more luxury experience it’s possibly something to consider before booking.

De hele ambiance aan Shale Lake is geweldig zeker als de dagjesmensen vertrekken! Hele fijne super behulpzame familie! We hebben volop genoten!

Het hoort er beetje bij denk ik daar maar we hadden vaker geen stroom dan wel 😅 dus in het donker koude douche. Ik zelf heb daar niet zo veel problemen mee voor een nachtje en er stond een kaarsje in de kamer. Kon alleen mijn telefoon etc niet opladen dat was wel jammer.

The room is very nice and clean. Good bed and pillow! After 4pm you can use the sunbeds and kayak for free. Nice terrace where you can chill with a great view of the river. Campfires around the river were lovely! Tip: dinner at Bee Eco House

All boats arrive in front of the property, so it gets really busy at that side. That’s why we always went to the other side during the day. Bathroom smelled like mold. 2 shared bathrooms with each a toilet, sink and shower, but sometimes a cue to use it.. Breakfast could be better for that price (banana, belino, coffee/tea, water). Loud music in front of the property. Since the boat leaves at 7h30, people are up early and you can hear every step and sound. We understand that it’s the high season and a last minute booking, but not worth the price in the end (in our opinion). Boat trip is €25 extra (which they mentioned in the booking, but should be included in the price).

Horrendous value for money. Double or triple the price of much better accommodation anywhere else in Albania (this is true for all accommodation along the shala river). Not included in the price is the boat to the accommodation (how else are you supposed to get there? Include it in the price) as well as the fact that absolutely everything costs money during the day, including sunbeds, kayaking etc. There is very little to do here if you’re not paying for it. The breakfast is tiny.
