The Tranquil Golden Retreat

I usually avoid leaving public reviews because constructive feedback is often taken personally, but this stay genuinely deserves a fair and balanced review. The property was very safe, peaceful, and quiet. The pictures actually undersell the place. I stayed there twice during my time in South Africa, initially for three days, and then I returned for another stay because the first experience was good. During both stays, I was the only guest, which made the environment especially calm and relaxing. The CCTV around the property also added an extra sense of security and peace of mind. I also want to give special credit to the host. He seemed genuinely prepared to accommodate guests professionally. At one point the water supply in the neighbourhood was interrupted, and after I contacted him, the backup water system was switched on almost immediately and everything returned to normal very quickly.

My first stay was excellent overall, but there are a few things the host may need to address for future guests. The main issue was the Sunday checkout time. On both occasions, my booking on Booking.com reflected an 11:00 checkout, but the host advised that Sunday checkout is actually 09:00 because of church commitments. The first time, this was communicated to me on the morning of checkout while I was already preparing to leave. The second time I stayed, I unintentionally planned my schedule around the 11:00 checkout stated on Booking.com and forgot about the verbal discussion from the previous stay, so the same situation happened again. I did raise this with the host directly because I think it is important for the online listing and the practical arrangements to align clearly to avoid confusion for guests. During my second stay, I was placed in a different room (the Silver Room instead of the Golden Room). Personally, I did not enjoy the second room as much. The layout felt quite enclosed because the bed was positioned tightly in a corner without a headboard, which made the room feel less comfortable for me. The room also did not include some of the conveniences available in the first room, such as a freezer, and the charging plugs were positioned quite far from the bed. In my opinion, the first room offered significantly better comfort and overall value for money compared to the second one.

The property is located in a very quiet street. It’s very clean and well maintained.

That there was no fans or air conditioning in the rooms.

The basin facet had an extremely low pressure. The shower door didn’t close, leading to water spreading on the bathroom floor. And the tv remote was not working very well

Comfortable bed

Room size was small No electric kettle in the room, for using electric kettle one has to go to the common kitchen each time No glass door or hanging curtain in the bathroom so that the water was spilling everywhere while taking shower Owner had placed a curtain like cloth which was supposed to be hanged on the wall so as to prevent some water going outside the shower cubicle while taking shower Check in time was 3PM and no request of early check in was entertained by the owner by saying that he do not live at the property premises and is very busy most of the time so cannot come before check in time When I reached the property at the check in time at 3PM there was no one inside the property to open the door and owner told me over the phone that his son is reaching the proprty in next 10 minutes but I had to wait on the road at the door of this property for half an hour with my luggage which was very very unsafe and there was a very high probability of getting mugged there and only after half an hour later this guy came to let me check in the property So it was a worst and disgusting experience for me at check in time
