The room is located on the upper floors of a bar, right on the main square of the old medina of Assilah. It had one double bed and two single beds (photo 8/24). Contrary to the description, when we arrived, we only found one pair of towels for two people, and the toiletries provided were used laundry soap bars. The sheets were freshly laundered, and the bathroom had just been cleaned, but overall, the room was not particularly clean. Access to the room is only via a small and very steep staircase, so it’s not suitable for children or people with mobility issues. We found this accommodation at the last minute and during high season, but for a stay longer than one night, it can be uncomfortable. Another small staircase leads to the rooftop, which offers a view of the city and a place to hang laundry. It was easy to find, there is plenty of free parking around the area just outside the medina if you arrive by car as we did.

The real issue is the misleading description. You expect to find some basic amenities that are actually not there. We had to ask for toilet paper and towels for a second person. There was no soap. In the morning, we found the bar always closed, so we had breakfast elsewhere. We’re a young couple, we travel often, and we can adapt to even worse conditions, but it’s important to know what you’re getting into. In an accommodation, I expect to find what’s listed in the description—nothing more, but most importantly, nothing less. Fortunately, our requests were met. Another important thing to note: the room is located above a very busy and noisy square, which can be loud until three or four in the morning. To keep the room cool, we couldn’t close the windows, so it’s not ideal for light sleepers.
