Nothing could have been better!

Location was perfect for our purposes. A quiet rural area with interesting walks. The cottage was clean with good quality beds, and facilities. I did not receive key access instructions via booking.com - but did get a prompt, friendly and helpful response when I telephoned the Sotterley Estate number. It was warm with an efficient heating and hot water system. Bathroom and shower were OK.

The cottage had been newly refurbished and decorated. I do not like the modern fashion of making everything white or grey - it results in a characterless, sterile atmosphere and ambience - negating the charm of a country cottage experience. The beds and bedroom furnishings were comfortable. The sitting room seemed to be furnished in a purely perfunctory fashion with no consideration for comfortable design - new, good quality furniture - but not suited to the space. Again, characterless and not what you would expect to find in a cottage - the place is 'sold' as a country living experience - but is disappointing in that respect. The kitchen utilities - cooker, dishwasher and washing machine were new, so no complaints there. But the kitchenware was lacking - especially saucepans and items that I consider essentials - vegetable steamer, egg cups and cafetiere, were absent. The toaster and kettle were the cheapest you can get - most people nowadays have a 4 slice good quality toaster - they are not that expensive! I'm putting this not to complain but to give the management a chance to get it right. I appreciate this is a recent update, so they may be waiting for feedback.
