Sokol House New Town

Despite the many problems, I liked the general vibe of the place and the kitchen with dishwasher (although no supplies for keeping the dishes clean were provided, not making it easy for a shared space to be kept clean. Housekeeping only comes twice per month) I enjoyed having cotton sheets, was glad to have my own updated bathroom, plenty of storage, and appreciated that I could rent a parking space for the month that I was there for a reasonable price, although, as I knew it would be, the location was nowhere near the accomodation. I also appreciated having the room at a relatively affordable price in Prague for a longer term stay. The location 7 mins walk from the IP Pavola station isn't bad, with a few convenience stores and restaurants nearby. It felt safe to walk from the station along busy streets at night.

When I booked the room, I was not aware the kitchen was shared. Upon arrival, I learned the unpleasant fact no towel was provided and no toilet paper. I think those things should be made clearer in advance. With the choice of the en suite room, I had to put up with a single bed, which was furnished with two thinner mattresses on top of each other, instead of a normal mattress. They sometimes felt like they were slipping apart. The room has only one tiny window, causing it to be extremely stuffy. The only way I survived it in the sometimes extremely hot month I was there was to buy a fan. That made the room at least survivable. If it's going to be hot, get a fan ASAP. I went away for a few days when it happened to be especially hot and was informed shops had run out of them while I was gone. When I first checked in, I was extremely annoyed by the lack of cleanliness in the kitchen. Someone left dirty glasses in the sink and had not bothered to wipe crumbs from the countertops. Fortunately, after the people responsible checked out not long into my stay, others came who cooked often and cleaned up after themselves quite well. It's not logical to expect a group of unrelated people to coordinate buying dish washing liquid. dishwasher tabs, and trash bags. The bag for the communal kitchen trash was only changed after someone in our suite took the responsibility of emptying it. Someone had bought replacements, which I found under the sink and used when needed, but they were flimsy and didn't properly fit. Although I felt things were much better by the time I left, communication with Yanna was spotty at times and occasionally I found her responses to me to be quite rude, as when I had problems using the app that is used to enter the building and access the elevator. It may have security benefits, but I had a problem with it disappearing from my phone, and there are apps with a similar name that confused me when I needed to download it again.
