The Shepherds Hut

Wonderful 12 days at Blue Tile House. Nick, host, could not have been kinder or more helpful. Pumpkin (19mnth old collie) fell in love with Percy the lurcher and behaved impeccably with the free roaming chickens (less so the Guinea fowl). Wonderful relaxed atmosphere, great for getting away from it all but equally an ideal location for exploring the best of North Norfolk - Blakeney well worth a visit as are Binham Abbey and Bayfield Wild Flower gardens. Facilities are a combination of basic (it is hut in the middle of a beautiful meadow) and thoughtful luxury extras: some cutlery, kettle, coffee machine and rather lovey coffee pods, reasonably sized fridge, superb bed and bedding, lovely powerful shower, toilet a short stroll from the hut. Kindling and logs provided for a very efficient fire pit arrangement which, with the frying pan, offers great opportunities for outdoor eating on warm evenings. While I would love to keep this place as a secret, I find I must recommend it to anyone wanting something a bit different - it is pure joy!

Might have been helpful to have a tongs and/or a poker for the fire pit. Water tap is nearby; a water carrier would have been useful.

Fantastic location. Quiet, secluded in the middle of a lovely meadow. Lots of character. Comfortable bed and a good nights sleep. Very relaxed and welcoming hosts. Great facilities in the hut - lights, stove, coffee machine and tea making kit with lots of supplies, blankets, cushions, fridge etc. Also lots of facilities outside the hut that we did not use - fire-pit, chairs & table. Good dedicated parking through a 5-bar gate accessed from the lane. The rustic washroom was good. Modern toilet hidden in an old earth closet. Modern and very good shower adjacent with original norfolk clay tile floor.

There were no teaspoons or cutlery in the hut. Not a major issue The collection of modern door bolts for the front door to the hut were a bit stiff - perhaps find a better way to secure the door. The steps up to the hut were slippery in the wet. Not a major issue for us but probably need some tread-grips and a banister to prevent issues. Also, the washroom probably needs a little bit of work but not too much so it doesn't lose its rustic charm - noticed the plaster was coming away from the ceiling in one area.

We should have been told in booking information that toilets were about 200 metres away next to the house. Also that to heat the hut you need to light a log fire and keep it going. (Fortunately we did not need it) Finally the owners made no arrangements to meet, greet or inform us about the property.
