Woodland Haven: 5BR Retreat with Sauna

This was an amazing, winter wonderland kind of vacation, and our hosts were responsive and incredibly thoughtful as we found ourselves there during a blizzard and potential power outage. They reached out to us (not the other way around, as we were still traveling and hadn’t seen the weather reports), offering candles, water, and snow shoveling to make sure our stay remained safe, comfortable and fun. We never lost power but we remained impressed by the level of care provided. The home is intentionally more remote and that’s why we were drawn to it - it’s an easy drive to Baraga, Houghton, or Hancock, and it still provides privacy and a feeling of being in the wilderness. If you’re interested in a dog sledding experience, there is a reputable dog sledding business just about a 10 minute drive from the house. We loved the sauna, the rooms and spaces are all exactly as described, and we had an all around lovely time.

Great communication by owner. We enjoyed our stay in this spacious rustic house laid out so everyone has some space to spread out. Very secluded. Wonderful snowy weekend. Easy access to Houghton. We felt relaxed after splitting some wood and spending some time in the sauna, complete with running barefoot into the snow. Would recommend this listing to others!!

Group of extended family and friends gathered outside Houghton to visit Michigan Tech kids. Lovely winter setting, spacious for all of us. Got a lot of use out of the sauna and appreciated all of the bedrooms. This home could use a few more supplies, in the kitchen especially. We had a bit of a struggle with having enough warm water, but communication with the owner was quick to try to address it. Bit of a drive into Houghton, but if you’re looking for a beautiful winter getaway, this house is for you.
