Hike Cadillac mountain (or drive up!) bring your bikes and ride the famous carriage trails that the Rockefellers installed back in the early 19th century.
Miles of converted railroad tracks make up the Down East Sunrise Trail system. A major attraction for ATV enthusiasts located in Machais 10 miles away. Rent a 2 or 4 passager ATV in town and explore 90 miles of ATV trails with coatal views. This also offers excellent biking on well maintained dirt trail. Don’t leave out the chance to explore the water with a kayak tour or rent your own from sunrise canoe and kayak in Machais, A trip to town is not complete without having a great meal at Helens Restaurant. At the very least you must have the Blueberry Pie made with world famous local berries. Of course its Maine so be prepared for weather. We can have a hot muggy day then fog engulfs us the next. Its all part of the experience.
Quoddy Head State Park is located four miles off Maine Route 189 in Lubec on the easternmost point of land in the United States. On its 532 acres, purchased by the state in 1962, the park features 4.5 miles of hiking trails, extensive forests, two bogs, diverse habitat for rare plants, and the striking, red-and-white striped lighthouse tower of West Quoddy Head Light. With its diverse landscape, breathtaking views, scenic picnic sites, and opportunities for hiking and whale watching, Quoddy Head State Park is a fun and fascinating destination for visitors to down east Maine.
