Our second annual stay at Sandrock and our high expectations after our first visit were all we had hoped for from what is clearly a well specified, comfortable family home not a run of the mill holiday let. We have a large, well behaved, friendly German Shepherd and once we closed the front gate we were happy for her to roam free in the enclosed garden and driveway. The rear panoramic views are fantastic and the local village shops are very friendly. National Trust run car parks are within a short drive for beaches. The access road to the cottage is about 300 yards up an unmade country lane but we had no problems navigating our hired Hyundai i800 (approx. transit van sized) either up the lane or up onto Sandrock's L-shaped gravel drive. Once on the drive I could turn it around to face outwards again in about a 7-9 point turn. A tip if returning when it has been raining, you might find the grip/traction easier to turn onto Sandrock's drive if you turn around about 20 yards further up the lane and drive on to Sandrock's drive facing down rather than up the lane. Would highly recommend The Crown Inn at Shorwell and The Wight Mouse Inn at Chale for good pub restaurant food or the Tamarind in Newport for Indian eat-in or takeaway food (special fixed price menu twice weekly).

Sandrock is a lovely big house with a beautiful garden and wonderful views across the country side. The kitchen is equipped with all that a family of 6 which we were needed even a dishwasher which was a godsend. We had chosen sandrock because it said it had a self contained garden as we had a 3yr old with us but it really wasn't as you could walk all the way round the house from the back garden to the front of the house there is however a gate you can shut at the entrance to the driveway and gaggerhill lane so in some sence you could contain the smaller children. The kitchen stove runout of gas while we was there but we phoned the owner Bill and he got it sorted within half an hour. Overall we had a lovely stay in sandrock great location for daily outings would recommend.

The holiday was an escape from hectic day to day lives. My mother, Sister and myself enjoyed it and so did our dogs. The garden was ample space for them to run around in and the local pub was very welcoming to all of us. The only negative was the weather and we couldn't pick that!

Just returned from 7th visit to Sandrock which we really enjoyed. Access is along an unmade road with a sharp right turn into driveway, might be problem for large cars? Shops and pub within walking distance for me and bus stops at bottom of lane. Local beach a few minutes drive away. There were a few maintenance issues this year to be attended to ,( this is why I had to lower my comfort score) BUT, there is a small book for visitors to report anything and the owner was going to stay at the property after we left to sort these things out so I do not have any complaints. Male Pheasant came into garden each morning. Beds and chairs very comfy, two rocking chairs facing rear garden by patio doors which face the hills. Plenty of towels, plates and even dishwasher tablets. Wood stove, nice conservatory, large tv . Did not take our dog but garden seems fine for them. We are looking forward to returning already ...!

This cottage was wonderfully situated, lovely views and not far from the village centre, we found it to need some minor repairs, but on the whole it was a lovely clean cottage with lots of space. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo
