About this cottage rental
Nestled high up in the sandstone peaks of Topanga, the cottage is a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Built in the 1940's, the cottage has been lovingly renovated and cared for over the years.
Situated in an oak grove, adjacent to the state park, and surrounded by a native plant garden, the cottage is the perfect place to unwind and listen to the birds (and wild peacocks) sing.
Enjoy the hot tub, dine al fresco, beach, hike and make a cozy fire.
Our property has two houses on it. The lower house is The Cottage and the upper house is our home. The Cottage is private and the yards are separate.

I wasn’t aware when we rented the unit that it is in the backyard of the owner. Not a problem as they were lovely, but I would have liked to know. Also the king bed is in the arch and the smaller bed in the other room. This is the opposite of what it shows in the photos. The yard surrounding the unit is an oasis.

We had a fabulous stay at this little oasis! We walked right out the door to the local trails, met some lovely neighbors, enjoyed the local restaurants etc. Check-in was easy, plenty of street parking, and lots of peaceful yard space to enjoy. We will be back!

Such a lovely cottage in Topenga!! Far enough to relax away from the city but close enough to travel to Malibu, Santa Monica, LA or even Burbank in under an hour. It was the perfect relaxing getaway for 2 couples on July 4 weekend. It was a clean beautiful space, looks even better than the photos, the beds were comfortable, plenty of towels, spacious hot tub & great amount of mirrors for getting ready. Decent amount of bugs spiders in & out, but to be expected as it’s in the middle of nature. The host was super responsive quickly with easy-to-follow instructions, and let us check in a little early which was super helpful! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a peaceful nature escape!

The area has no internet or phone reception, making it difficult to check in. I believe the host should have informed us of this in advance. Parking is available on the street across from the house, so be sure to check. The house is beautiful and filled with vintage furniture, but the toilet and kitchen are connected by a sliding door. This detail is not apparent from the photos, so I recommend not inviting anyone other than family. Common items like oil or salt are not provided, and the nearest market is more than 10 minutes away by car with no delivery available. Please bring all necessary food and seasonings with you. We had to dispose of our own trash, but the bins were full and we couldn't fit any more in.
