About this house rental

A Great Place to hang out !

Here at Casa Mango we have fantastic pool with a big rancho. The rancho has a gas stove with tables for preparing and eating food. Sun chairs if you wish to lay back and soak up the sun. There is also a spectacular Deck over looking the water. Also a great place to eat your meals, drink the morning coffee, or just take in the view and enjoy the breeze. Inside we have a 46in flat screen TV with WiFi, and Netflix. A Bluetooth sound bar that can be brought outside to the rancho or deck, both have electricity. Refrigerator with Ice Machine and filtered water. Ceiling fans throughout the house. A/C in the bedrooms, and one in the main living area for those really hot days. Fully equipped kitchen, secure parking, hot water showers with good pressure. Comfortable mattresses, and a washing machine.

Casa Mango is a quaint, rustic house restored to its former glory and updated to make your stay the best it can be. Right on the tip of the peninsula, Santa Eduviges. The place is located right on the Estero River from Puntarenas. We have a great view from our deck over looking the water to the "Angostura" from Puntarenas. There is no other place like this in Costa Rica. We are also conveniently located only 5 miles to the Ferry, supermarkets, bakery, and pulperia. We are in a "Real Tico Neighborhood" not a million dollar villa on top of a hill where you don't see or hear a soul. Our place is right where life goes on. This is how people really live in Costa Rica. The neighbors are mostly fisherman and retired people. All are friendly, humble, and working class. There is always some movement on the water, boats come and go all day. It's great sitting on the deck and watching the tides come and go, it's a forever changing landscape. There are many species of birds around all day including the occasional Scarlet Macaw, often seen flying in pairs or even eating from the tree right next to the deck. You can also fish from the deck, or even from the private pier we have on the property. You'll catch mostly catfish with an occasional stingray.

Going to Puntarenas at night is an experience as well with all the street food vendors and people hanging out on the board walk.

The bus stop is on the next corner, the bus will take you to Chacarita, Puntarenas Center, El Roble and other locations. The public bus station is just 100m away.

My Girlfriend Mariela and I live next door with our dogs Moka and Canela. 2 sweet pits that I've had since puppys. And although the houses are completely separated and private from each other, the dogs often roam both property's.

We had a fantastic stay! We did not get to meet Josh, but Mariela was a great host and took care of everything we needed! She was an amazing host on top of recommending several spots we should visit, and none of them disappointed. The place had all of the amenities we needed, and we felt comfortable staying here with the locking gate. The pool was a plus and made our stay more enjoyable. We would return to this place.

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable 3 weeks at Casa Mango in Chacarita, Puntarenas in Feb 2025, we wanted a small local place to see wildlife , relax and enjoy the climate and culture that is Costa Rica. The small private home is located on an estuary and we enjoyed watching the tide changes ,it was interesting with all the different types of birds and local fishing boats .We spent a lot of time on the shaded porch , usually we had a nice breeze, reading and dining, and just watching the variety of birds . We also went to the beach in Puntarenas a few times and some beautiful waterfalls near by called Encantado. The air conditioned house was newly upgraded, very clean, has two good size bedrooms with ensuites and comfortable beds .There is also a well stocked functional kitchen with lots of plants and shade outside. The private pool was perfect, the sun shelter added shade in the afternoons.Josh and Mari were excellent hosts, very friendly and very responsive if we had a questions or needed anything, and very helpful at all times. We really enjoyed getting to know them and their dogs, Canella and Mocha! Josh was doing maintenance on his boat while we were there so we will do Isla Tortuga next time! We also met several very nice and interesting travellers who stopped at the adjacent camping area! Overall, we had a great time , one of our most relaxing vacations ever and look forward to returning for another visit in the future !

This was our 2nd time staying at Casa Mango. We enjoyed it so much last year we came back! Josh was amazing once again. He picked us up at the airport to start our 2nd Puntarenas journey. We were able to take the city bus basically from our "door" and go to the market downtown, Nicoya Beach, restaurants, the ferry & eat a little street food too!Having a pool on site and AC was definitely an added benefit. Laundry available and a clothesline. Sitting on the deck at night was one of our favorites. Winding down the day with a cocktail and a card game.Hoping the boat will be up and running next year. Josh & Mariela took us on a couple group excursions last year to different beaches and islands. They have done multiple upgrades to the property to make our (and your!) stay even better.Thank you, Josh & Mariela, for everything! See you next year!! Say hi to the girls from us :)

Josh and Mariela are great and he casa was okay, an oasis in a poor area, at the end of a bus line to Puntarenas only 75m away. Bird watching on the estuary is great. The neighbors dogs and roosters start early along with 2 stroke fishing biats around 4:30. Worst things are a bar 50 meters actoss the river open all night sometimes, very loud and throwing garbage into the riner. The neighbors are burning every day, many with the wind pushing smoke into tbe unit.. Make sure to have ear plugs and binoculars
