HISTORY

The cottage is part of a complex of buildings which once made up the historic Martha’s Vineyard COOP Dairy. This sunny three bedroom once served as it's carriage house. The Martha’s Vineyard COOP Dairy was an operating dairy and milk bottling facility until the mid 1960's. During its hay-day, all the island’s farmers brought their milk to be processed and bottled here. The owners unit was the Dairy’s barn and is adjacent to the carriage house.

We are year round residents and would be glad to help out with some tips to make your stay a memorable one.

Have a great summer!

HERE'S A FEW FUN THINGS GOIN' ON NEARBY

BIKING - Great location as a base camp for biking the island. Bring your own bike or easily rent one, bike rental shop is just a 10 minute walk toward town, they also will deliver.

FISHING - Just a 1/2 mile away the bend in the road beach offers some of the best surfcasting on the Vineyard, head another 1/2 mile down the road and drop a line off big bridge, great spot for Stripers and Blues.

CLAMMING - Just a ten minute walk is Sengekontacket pond by far one of the very best clamming spots on the Island.

CRABBING - 5 minute walk toward the beach is a colvert where the salt pond rushes under the road. Great spot for catching delicious blue crabs.

KITE SURFING - Well known for its great windsurfing, Sengekontacket pond is also quickly becoming known as one of the best places in the east coast for kite surfing. Vineyard native, Rob Douglas, earned the title of fastest kite sailor in the world & can be regularly found rippin' it up on Sengekontacket pond.

KAYAKING - On the far side of the State Beach, 10 min by bike, Kayaks can be rented by Island Spirit Kayak. They also offer great day and sunset tours island wide.

BRIDGE JUMPING - One mile down the road, nothing like Jumping off State Beach's big bridge! You'll regularly find kids and adults alike enjoying the 10' plunge into the cool waters of the Vineyard Sound on a hot summer day.

SNORKELING
Nothing like the Caribbean, but the waters here are typically, surprisingly clear. Floating around the rock jetties of either of the two bridges along State Beach you can ride the current in or out of Sengekontacket pond. Small fish, conch, starfish, crabs and the occasional Stripped Bass are your quarry. The free ride in the current is worth the effort. After 15 years living here this is still one of my favorites on a hot day!

The property is just as cute an convenient as advertised. It was our first time bringing our dog on vacation, and he loved the fenced-in yard. (Note for pet owners, he could get out to the driveway if he tried.) The sunset and sunrise walks were amazing, especially with the nature preserves on the road. Beds were very comfortable. We loved all the little touches the owners provide. If you like nature and don't mind some short walks, this is the place. We also loved rhe history and backstory.

We were so pleased to stay at this property. The location - close to the beach, and an excellent location for all that we wanted to do. We brought our car since we had our pups with us (important tip: make sure you can get vehicle reservations to/from the island on the Steamship Authority, they book up fast). We saw lots of bicyclists and the buses were always running, as other transportation options if you come without a car. The house couldn’t have been more perfect. It was part of the Co-Op Dairy from the 40s-60s and I loved the vintage nods in the decor. It was just so comfortable and inviting. I loved all of the care clearly put into the house. The bedrooms were good sized and we had plenty of space. Check in and communications were excellent. We all founds the beds comfortable, and we cooked many meals in the kitchen. We enjoyed grilling and making s’mores on the patio. The special touches of flowers and herbs in the house on arrival show just how much the owners care about guest experience - they have thought of everything. We enjoyed the gentle sandy slope and swimming at beaches, which are close. Go early for roadside parking, or walk. There is a lifeguard at the bend. We appreciated the beach chairs at the house. We rented kayaks on Sengekontacket Pond, jumped from Jaws Bridge, saw the Aquinnah Cliffs, fished, rode the Flying Horses Carousel, shopped in the towns, visited Jaws filming sites, and took long naps. Perfection! Thank you!

Was exactly what I expected for our stay on the Island. I grew up on Cape Cod and looking forward to a cozy cottage on the island. The property mgr also lives on the property but I only saw her once when I communicated that the coffee maker broke and was promptly replaced with a new one. Short drive or pleasant walk to downtown Edgartown with its restaurants and shops. Love the outside shower. Was there in September so the beaches are everywhere. Great farms on the island so it's easy and fun to shop for veggies. Not to mention the fish markets at Menemsha! Would definitely want to come back.
