Sheepfold in dry stones with outdoor spa, calm assured

It's hard to come up with enough superlatives to describe this gite. Granite-built on the side of a mountain, well-equipped, comfortable although not luxurious furnishings...but it's the location that made it so unforgettable. We've stayed in a variety of holiday homes and apartments over the last few years, but this one beat them all hands down. It's the ideal hideaway. We spent hours each day sitting on the terrace or in the little outdoor eating area, just enjoying the gentle sounds of the Corsican wilderness - and evenings in the hot-tub star-gazing and counting shooting stars. We had red kite kewing overhead, wild boar grunting in the garden as they foraged for acorns...and a very amiable neighbourhood cat to keep us company. The host was friendly and helpful. Between his limited English and our rusty French we were able to communicate pretty effectively. He recommended the best beaches (often deserted), the most incredible pre-historic sites and astounding mountain drop-offs. All within an hour or so by car. We would have no hesitation in returning for another stay.

What a great week! Swimming in the sea, walking in the hills, then home for a glass of Champagne in the Jacuzzi before cooking up supper on the BBQ. The place is peaceful, in a beautiful area, well equipped and perfect for a relaxing holiday. The owner was also really helpful and very welcoming. We will be back!
