. At our Sandrosen vacation home on the island of Römö—Vesterhede, just a stone’s throw from Sylt—you’ll find the perfect setting for a relaxing vacation. The island is connected to the mainland by a causeway (free of charge), about a 1-hour drive from the German-Danish border. It is a very well-maintained thatched-roof stone house in the most beautiful part of the North Sea island of Römö. In the summer, the wide sandy beach on the west coast offers excellent swimming opportunities, especially for children, and windsurfers and kitesurfers will also find ideal conditions here. The rest of the year, you can spend cozy evenings by the wood-burning stove or in the sauna and enjoy the island’s diverse natural surroundings during the day. The vacation home itself is also a delight, with its 2,500-square-meter natural property—a heathland dotted with pine trees, where you might even encounter a hare or a deer.


Römö Nature: Beautiful Nature—The island of Römö offers stunning natural scenery that is famous far beyond Denmark’s borders. The island is the second-largest of the Dutch, German, and Danish Wadden Sea islands. The northern part of the island is a bird sanctuary for the many wading birds. Seals also inhabit Rømø, and in recent years, several sperm whales have stranded on the island. On the eastern side, you can experience the amazing natural phenomenon of the tides in the Wadden Sea, where you can also see a rich variety of wildlife, including many different species of birds. The Wadden Sea is Europe’s largest feeding ground for birds. Throughout the year, you can observe a wide variety of animals here.

Rømø Highlights: Child-Friendly Beach: The beach is great even for the youngest children, with shallow water where they can splash around to their hearts’ content. The most beautiful and widest beach in Northern Europe. On the west side of Römö lies one of Europe’s best swimming beaches, where you can drive right up to the water. Sandcastles: Only your imagination sets the limits when building figures out of the beautiful white sand on the beach. Kite flying: The beach is a paradise for kite flyers. They come in the thousands. Health for body and soul: Römö is an island where guests return year after year to find and rediscover good health for both body and soul in our pure, iodine-rich air. Horseback riding: The beach on Römö is also a popular spot for horseback riding tours. You can bring your own horse or rent one of the many horses available on Römö to go on a tour along marked riding trails.

How to find amber: Rømø’s beach is not only one of Europe’s best and most attractive beaches for swimmers and sunbathers, but also a treasure trove for treasure hunters; for if you’re on Rømø’s beach or in the Wadden Sea at the right time—and are lucky enough—you can find amber —the gold of the sea. “First the man takes the amber, then the amber takes the man.” Countless stones have been picked up, bitten into, and then thrown away by visitors to Rømø. There is white and yellow amber, black and red, orange and brown amber. There is amber in which insects and plant parts are trapped, and amber that is completely transparent. And there’s plenty of it. That’s why it’s hard to understand how someone could walk along the beach for years without finding a single piece—it takes a trained eye. The search for amber can become a lifelong passion.
