We know Dungeness well, and were very happy with the location. Its a lovely, characterful cottage, as expected. Beds comfy. However there were a few things that really let it down. The owners hadn't turned on the heating prior to our arrival (they thought they had, but hadn't; we think they had done so remotely, but all the heaters were off manually at the wall?). It took best part of a day to heat up so was pretty chilly. (We only heat our own place to 17 degrees, so we don't expect loads of heat). The lack of quite a few curtains, and inner doors, was a shame. We did feel a little exposed from some windows at night, and the lack of bedroom door on the main bedroom was unnerving for an insomniac! The bath is tiny. We can live with that. But there wasn't enough hot water from the immersion to fill it, so this meant having to fill pans of water - this took ages, not least because there are only two large pans (fine for us - we couldn't have cooked easily for our family though). The bath overflow isn't plumbed in - so when we filled the bath with a few kettles to make it tolerable, some of the water came straight out on the floor.

All the comforts you could wish for set in a spectacular surrounds. The views from the top bedroom were fantastic and a good lookout for bird watching. Will definitely stay again.

The house is in a quiet location, unfortunately the building works are outside the kitchen window and were noisy. This will be ongoing as the next door house build is nowhere near finished. The watch tower looks amazing in the pictures but was really disappointing on arrival. The patio is old, and very weedy with random empty flower pots and a very overgrown garden. Not looked after at all. The fence is broken and leaning into the Next Door neighbours garden. The entry door had a boarded up catflap. Not a great first impression. The house is clean but is old and needs updating, they have removed all the radiators and replaced with electric heating but left all of the pipes that were connected to the radiators. There’s bits of laminate floor missing, and when you’re cooking, if anyone uses the toilet, you can hear them because it’s only a sliding door between the toilet and the kitchen. The bath is a small sized bath so that means the shower is quite compact. The kitchen hot tap only had warm water under very low pressure so unable to wash anything that couldn’t go in the dishwasher without boiling the kettle. We were unable to use the conservatory as it was boiling and you can’t open the windows as they are locked and there is no key and you could only open one of the doors as the other one was unopenable. The furniture in the conservatory is old on the plus side the house was clean. And the kitchen had everything you needed, even very out of date tea bags! We had a lovely day Dungeness is a great place to explore, we watched seals in the sea and the snack shack was delicious. The pilot Inn was good fun as very busy and nice fish and chips. The steam train was excellent fun but the house was definitely a disappointment.
