About this apartment rental

Second floor of an 1865 Tin shop, now a retail space.

Unique space with high ceilings & exposed brick walls. The bathroom features a soaker claw foot tub plus a lux walk in shower. The kitchen features solid surface counters, a large farmhouse sink, really nice appliances and thoughtful touches everywhere. The wifi is blazing.
Have issues with stairs? This is not a good choice for you. If you're up for stairs and want a unique slice of history in a hip package then you will not be disappointed.

The space
In 1865 this building was the home of Nye and Starr, a manufacturer of tinware and stoves. The Starr in this business was actually Benjamin Starr, later of the famous Starr Piano Company and Starr Gennett Records. This tin shop was his first business after he returned from the civil war and would become the first step into Richmond's jazz and recording history. The loft also became the residence to the fire chiefs of our city. The number one fire house is directly behind us and now serves as a BBQ restaurant.
The neighborhood has become the place to come in Richmond for entertainment, food, and events. THE place in Richmond to connect and gather. It has become the hub of our community and to those visiting or attending a local college. With your stay, two breakfasts meals and two signature drinks at Roscoe's are included each day as our gift to you.

My husband and I spent a few days in Starr Loft over fall break. Richmond’s Depot District is being revitalized, and there are great restaurants and mom & pop businesses easily walkable from the loft. The vibe of the area is really good, and we never had any problems with parking—although we were there in the middle of the week. The comp. breakfasts from Roscoe’s were great! The loft is cute, but seemed hastily constructed. On our second night, we learned that the wall between the bedroom of this unit and the next unit is paper thin. We could hear their TV and entire conversation—and they weren’t speaking particularly loudly. It was enough to keep us awake, and annoying enough to prevent us from booking there again. The loft was also dirty. It looked like they hadn’t swept the floors for weeks. It had hair, dust bunnies, and other dirt all around the baseboards and under the nightstands and other furniture. The table in the living room was extremely sticky. Their instructions say to load and run the dishwasher, start a load of sheets and pillowcases, and take the trash to the dumpster when you leave, (which was expected,) but I did bristle a bit because we paid a cleaning fee for a place that wasn’t clean or properly stocked. There was one roll of toilet paper that ran out the morning we left. There were supposed to be cleaning supplies under the sink and extra toilet paper in the laundry room, but neither was there. It has potential, but there’s room for improvement.

We loved this very unique property. It was just as described. Beds were comfortable and parking was convenient. Owner was very responsive when we called because of an AC problem on a 90 degree day, and he had it repaired while we were at dinner. Did not impact our stay at all! I highly recommend for a unique get away. Loved the free breakfast/coffee option at a local coffee shop too - that was not expected.

Beautiful loft, nicely decorated with antique pieces throughout that really give the feeling of the history of the location. Conveniently located to cute shops, restaurants, and everything Richmond has to offer. The hosts, Terri and Michael, were attentive and great with communication. Definitely my new favorite place to stay when I’m in town. Highly recommended the Starr Loft in the Depot District.

Beautiful, private apartment in historic Richmond. A lot of comfy places to read, big couches, large TV, great shower and double sink and a good-sized bath tub. Kitchen is large and well equipped. Located very close to an arcade, multiple restaurants, bars, ice cream shop and a book shop. All-in-all, an excellent stay!

I wasn't expecting that a visit to my small hometown would end up being the nicest vacation stay I've had but it was. Walking distance to some fun restaurants and a great record store. Property itself was beautiful and well maintained in a renovated loft space. Lots of charm and attention to detail. This place makes me want to find reasons to visit Richmond more often!

I was on property for a week on a business trip. Very clean and comfortable place. It had all the amenities to feel like being home and not a hotel. Great area. Plenty of places to eat and coffee near the place. Also enjoyed being close to a trail for running. Woukd absolutely stay again

This was a great place to stay. We were in town for a concert in indy and everything in indy was a fortune. We found this place a little outside of indy but not too far. The place is amazing and beautiful. The decor fits it real.well the exposed rafters i love. Its kind of a vintage feel. I told my daughter when we got there i loved the place so much im not leaving. She told me i have to because she plans on not leaving. Plenty of food and dining just a mile or two away. I dont know if ill ever go back to indy but if i do i will probably stay here again

My partner and I stayed in the Starr Loft this past Memorial Day weekend and it was an absolute hit! The pictures are accurate but still don't capture how cool the place is - make sure to look for the little bits of history inside the place like the turn-of-the-century decorations and pictures. Plus you have convenient street parking right outside the loft, breakfast for 2 at Roscoe's with your reservation, and it's more affordable than almost any hotel you'd find. We're already planning next year's trip and I'd encourage other folks to give it a try too :)

What a cute place! I really enjoyed staying in Starr Loft. I was in Richmond for just a couple days to graduate, but really enjoyed everything. The loft is lovely and inviting! And the ice cream place on the corner is yummy. Coffee and breakfast at Roscoe’s was a treat!

My family of 4 stayed here for the 2024 eclipse. We had reserved it 13 months before the eclipse and they honored the reservation instead of canceling it for a higher bidder, as I heard a lot of property owners had done. Which speaks to the owners’ high integrity. The space was so beautiful and very well maintained. I would absolutely stay again if we were to return to Richmond.

This is a wonderful loft in a neat area of Richmond and I have stayed here 3 times now. Unfortunately the owners had my reservation wrong and weren't expecting me. There was washing in the washer and the dryer, a remote that wouldn't work, and the temperature in the loft would not reach more than 71 degrees. We also had some issues the last time we stayed including having to purchase our own toilet paper. Too bad I won't stay again because it is a cute place.

I had such an amazing experience staying here during my wedding weekend! A beautiful and spacious apartment that hosted myself and my bridesmaids as we got ready. My only negative is how noisy it can be on the street- it is located very close to a fire station, so there are sirens blaring by a few times a day. Thank you to Terri for your hospitality! The loft is beautifully decorated and clean. Easy street parking and access to the loft. The coffee shop is no longer located below the loft, but it was only a few blocks away and the hosts provided free specialty drinks, which was nice of them to do. We would stay here again when we come back to visit family.

This loft is A LOT bigger than we anticipated from the pictures. There was more than enough room. The furthest we had to travel was 15 minites to the stuff we wanted to do.. past that, most everything was just a couple minutes away. There's lots of local eateries and shops. We only had one slight hiccup with the rental (loose door handle). The hosts were there literally within 10 minutes of me contacting them and got it fixed in like 2. Not to mention it happened at 9:30 PM so i personally wasnt expecting a quick reply but it was awesome to get it. They were super nice too! If youre thinking about renting this loft, do it. Its well worth it!

This place is sooo cool! We truly enjoyed our stay and appreciate the communication from the hosts! Roscoes wasn’t directly under the loft but was very close by and had a nice atmosphere and decent variety on the menu. We will definitely stay there again when we come back to visit family!
