About this cottage rental

Perfectly located Romantic Grade II listed cottage in arguably the prettiest chocolate box town in the Cotswolds, Our reviews reflect the fantastic location of the cottage in proximity to local eateries, hikes, and amenities. Bourton On The Water ‘Little Venice’. Captain's Cabin. It has one allocated parking space for a mid sized car directly in front of the cottage and an enclosed courtyard. Check in time 3pm and check out 10am. Minimum 3 night stay (unless 2 night available in between existing bookings)and maximum 7 -10 nights (enquire if you need more) as no washing machine in the property. Due to the size of the cottage , one small adult well behaved dog allowed downstairs only and not on furniture - please always check first if bringing a pet . Tassimo coffee maker and retro Bluetooth radio plus Smart TV . You will need your own passwords for apps such as Netflix. Bourton is around 40 minutes from Oxford and is centrally located for visiting other Cotswold villages such as Chipping Norton, Burford, The Slaughters,Chipping Camden, Moreton in Marsh and Broadway. Restaurants or pubs that are within 5 minute walks are Venezia Italian restaurant (our favourite) , ‘Smiths’ which is a burger and cocktails brasserie, ‘The Willow’ which is a traditional pub, ‘The Croft’,which is a restaurant, ‘The Mousetrap’ which is a boutique pub or ‘L’anatra’ serving traditional pizza. There are many more including Chinese takeaway, Indian takeaway,Fish and Chips takeaway to name a few!.This cosy cottage boasts plenty of traditional charm with characteristic features. Set on three floors the property has exposed beams , reclaimed and restored oak flooring downstairs with huge inglenook fireplace, logs provided for one fire during winter months only, guests can purchase additional logs, kindling and firelighters from Budgen supermarket, a 2 minute walk away.Exposed honey coloured Cotswold stone walls but with on demand central heating and dual fuel traditional log burner for those cosy evenings . NOTE: There are two low beams downstairs . One central beam on the ground floor height being 5'7 which is the lowest beam in the cottage. Full free internet access (around maximum 10mbps), with all amenities and dining table and chairs for three. The table will be folded in between stays to maximise space. Ground floor houses main living area and kitchen. Steep stairs with rope banisters lead to first floor which has a very pretty and romantic double bedroom which has a Grade II status stone mullion window as center piece and good size full height triple cupboard. Also on first floor is a modern bathroom housing bath, shower over bath, dual towel rail radiator and vanity units with touch free LED mirror, electric razor point to tge side of LED mirror, basin & toilet. 2nd floor with steep stairs (but with banisters) takes you to the single bedroom which has views over the rooftops and rolling hills beyond. Window seat cushions throughout. There is a fully enclosed patio area to the front with seating for three which is a sunspot each afternoon in the Summer months or al fresco dining. To the back of the property you can access footpaths via a pretty lane and historic church graveyard. The footpaths can take you to the Slaughters which are particulaly beautiful.Town center is at the end of the drive! where you can picnic along the River Windrush in the Summer months or have a cream tea in one of the many quaint tea shops or even a pastie from a boutique pastie shop . Several restaurants offer a mixture of cuisine all within less than 2 minutes walk. Despite the bustle of the town all you can hear is the birds as you relax with a hot drink or glass of champagne in the courtyard. Many of our guests have commented on the fact the cottage is secluded but is a few steps away from the town center. Check out the history of Captains Cabin, deeds date from 1663, check out English Heritage from search engines to find out more about this and the adjoining set of quaint cottages , part of which is said dates back to medieval times. Parts of Bourton were a Saxon settlement and mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Property is set over 57 sq m or 613 sq feet.

Beautiful cosy cottage that had everything we needed. Very comfortable bed enabling a great night’s sleep. Clean rooms and easily accessible property set in a wonderful location very near to shops, cafes, and restaurants. The romantic setting and ambience inspired my partner to propose in front of the log fire so this is a memorable one for us too. Thankyou Peter. We shall be back again.

This cabin was exactly what we wanted. Clean, adorable and convenient. Easy in and out and so nice to be able to park right there. Thank for the milk for our coffee and wonderful bottle of wine at arrival. It was so appreciated.

We found this place to be a perfect little home base for exploring The Cotswolds by public transport and foot. It's just steps from the village center but, being tucked up at the end of a quiet lane, feels quiet and secluded. It's right on the Monarch's Way public footpath, affording access to almost unlimited walks to nearby villages, farms, historic sites and areas of natural beauty. Bus service in the area is very good, and the train station at Moreton in Marsh is a 30 minute bus ride away. We spent 10 days here and never regretted our decision to not hire a car.The accomodation itself is cozy, charming, well appointed and very comfortable for 2. We would not hesitate to book this place again should we decide to return to The Cotswolds.
