LOCATION
For decades, the Alameda de Hércules has been the birthplace of some of Seville’s most interesting social movements. As a result, this neighborhood has become the epicenter of new trends, fashions, and cultural avant-garde movements. Moreover, it is the birthplace of a very significant shift in social customs throughout the city.
All of this has not only transformed the neighborhood’s atmosphere but has also had a decisive influence on the image many people have of Seville—as an open city that embraces diversity. Much of the credit for this goes to the LGBTI+ community, which—through the opening of dedicated venues and the relocation of many of its members to homes in the neighborhood—has spearheaded this change in image.
In fact, it’s surprising that La Alameda is now a trendy neighborhood, when until just a few years ago it was one of the most run-down areas in Seville. Far removed from that run-down image, property values in the area are now on the rise, and there isn’t a major restaurant group in Seville that doesn’t have (or wants to open as soon as possible) a restaurant or tapas bar here. Furthermore, Alameda de Hércules, given its size (480 meters long by 80 meters wide) and its pedestrian-friendly nature, is the ideal venue for markets, concerts, outdoor exhibitions, and popular festivals…
