About this cabin rental

The Potomac Cabin is located directly on the South Branch of the Potomac River boasting full water access for fishing, rafting, swimming and more! Situated on 7 acres of prime WV mountain land, this 5-BR, 3-BA cabin can comfortably sleep 14 people and is perfect for hosting your weekend or more getaway. Come explore the beautiful eastern panhandle of WV with this one of a kind, yet affordable mountain retreat!

IMPORTANT - This is a remotely located cabin but should have everything you need for a relaxing or adventurous stay. We, the owners, built this cabin ourselves and take great pride in it - but this is not however the Ritz Carlton so please do not have the expectation that you won't find a speck of dirt or an occasional lady bug or two in the house. We are in the mountains, not in a town and the setting is rustic, but rest assured we have cleaning crews that service the house in between each guest.

We have a wood burning stove that provides a great amount of heat during the winter and we also have an AC that provides a cool house in the summer. Each bedroom has its own individual Heat/AC unit. Wifi is now high speed so a full internet experience is available (video calls, HD streaming, etc) but premium app services are at the expense of the renter. There are hundreds of DVDs available at the cabin. That said, most do not come here for the technology. But on rainy days we also have several boxes of kids toys and board games. We just ask that you put them away neatly when done. A shed is located at the bottom of the property with water equipment available to all renters who fill out a liability waiver. Just inquire after booking if you plan on doing any river trips so we can assist.

A full welcome guide with area information will be provided after booking.

Pet fee: $30 per pet, per stay

CONTRACTUAL ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND WAIVER OF LIABILTY
RELATING TO COVID-19

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact, as well as through surface contact. As a result, federal, state, and local governments and federal and state health agencies recommend social distancing and have, in many locations, prohibited the congregation of groups of people.

The owner can not guarantee that a tenant, his or her family and/or guests will not become infected with COVID-19 while using the leased rental property. Tenant acknowledges that Lessor and Association’s respective liability insurance may not provide coverage for contraction of an infectious disease. Tenant also acknowledges the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assumes the risk that Tenant and any member of his or her party or Tenant’s guests may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 while using the leased property, and that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, and even death.
Tenant agrees to assume all of the foregoing risks and accept sole responsibility for any COVID-19-related injury (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability, or expense, of any kind that Tenant, members Tenant’s party or Tenant’s guests, may experience or incur in connection with use of the rented property.

Tenant hereby releases and covenants not to sue, discharges, and agrees to defend (through legal counsel selected by the indemnified party) and hold harmless Lessor and the Association of and from all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs or expenses of any kind, which arise out of or relate to to the contraction of COVID-19 by Tenant, members of Tenant’s rental party or Tenant’s guests. Tenant understands and agrees that this release includes any claims based on the actions, omissions, or negligence of Lessor, any of their respective employees, agents and representatives.
Tenant acknowledges that his or her contractual assumption of the risk as set forth above, for himself/herself and on behalf of all of his or her family members, party members and guests who use the leased rental, is a specific condition precedent to (i) Lessor agreeing to lease this vacation rental property to Tenant, and Tenant acknowledges this is a specifically negotiated term and that the monetary amount of the lease and the status of the recreational amenities as being open for Tenant’s use are based upon the inclusion of this term.

I've been trying to decide how I really feel about our stay. The cabin was clean, spacious, and had the basics. But...things were just unfinished and/or just not practical. Two of the three toilets were not even screwed/mounted to the floor. You wobbled whenever you sat down. Light switches were in completely inconvenient places (think behind doors in the rooms), so you had to walk into a dark room and fumble around to locate them. There was only one outlet in the kitchen, and the oven shut off if the temperature was set over 400°. I'm not picky about linens matching and whatnot, because nothing matched or seemed newer, but every bed was covered with that plastic mattress covering and the sheets and pillowcases were too big and didn't fit well. Not to mention, we had to make the beds when we got there. I was kind of hoping for a bit more of a welcoming atmosphere. It seems like this is something of a family home when it is not being rented, because cupboards and vanities had used personal items (toothpaste, deodorant, used soap, shampoo, etc.) and the kitchen had junk drawers and cupboards with half used pantry items. I felt like we were invading someone's personal space. I wish there would have been better instructions on the electronics, as the tv's were difficult to figure out. Roku is great, but it seems only one of the 4 sets in the cabin had the Roku plug. DVD players and game systems didn't work, and the TV on the lower level was burnt out on the left side. Some of the highlights were the poker and pool tables, and we played darts and the arcade console multiple times. The hot tub was OK once the excessive chemicals dissipated. We brought a canopy for it since it is uncovered. The grill would serve better on the deck, instead of by the fire pit, as you had to walk all the way downstairs and through the game room and back when grilling. I think the cabin temperature was difficult to regulate, as there is no central air or heating. I felt like it was either freezing or sweltering. The lighting on the main floor is too dim as well. Again, overall we enjoyed our stay because of the people there, and the basics were provided. In comparison with other cabin rentals we have had, this was underwhelming in terms of feeling like we were getting quality. Hiking was difficult due to the steepness of the terrain, and the water was too high to utilize the canoes or kayaks. And we didn't mind the stink bugs - it's the woods, for gosh sake!
