About this cabin rental

Tucked among the wind-swept pines at the top of a gentle hill, On Beach Time is a rare gem — an authentic 1956 mid-century beach cottage that has weathered the decades with grace, character, and a whole lot of soul. At just 840 square feet, this enchanting retreat proves that the best things in life aren't measured in square footage — they're measured in the way a place makes you feel the moment you walk through one of its fun, original doors.

And this place? It feels like a warm hug from the Oregon coast.

Built in an era when Heceta Beach was still a quiet secret — years before the building booms of the late sixties and early seventies reshaped the neighborhood — On Beach Time is one of the few surviving beach cottages from that golden mid-century chapter. It carries its history proudly in every detail: soaring vaulted tongue-and-groove ceilings that draw your eye upward, richly textured rough-hewn cedar walls that glow warm in the afternoon light, and architectural details like the original window trim that remind you this home was crafted by hands that truly cared. You won't find cookie-cutter finishes here — just honest, timeless craftsmanship and a story that's been unfolding for seventy years.

Step inside and you'll discover a beautifully open layout where the living room, kitchen, and dining area flow together as one generous, sun-filled gathering space. No one misses a moment here — whether you're stirring something delicious on the stove, sinking into the couch for a movie, or dealing the next hand of cards at the table, everyone is together, everyone is part of the conversation, and everyone is exactly where they belong. On chilly coastal evenings, the electric fireplace fills the room with a soft, flickering glow that pairs perfectly with a glass of wine, a good book, and the sound of the wind in the pines outside.

The cottage sleeps four across two cozy, separate sleeping areas — one with a plush queen bed and one with a spacious king — so whether you're here as a couple savoring a romantic escape or a small family making sandy memories, there's room to stretch out and dream deeply. A full bathroom with a shower/tub combo is just steps away, and a dedicated laundry room with a full-size washer and dryer means you can wash off a day's worth of beach adventures without a second thought.

Now, let's talk about the deck — because it just might become your favorite room. The 8x20 wind-protected deck sits right off the kitchen and is completely fenced with a gate, making it an absolute dream for your four-legged travel companion. (The owners' own Cairn Terrier gives it two paws up!) Catch the morning and early afternoon sun with a cup of coffee, fire or simply sit at the picnic table and let the hours drift by at whatever pace feels right. After all, you're on beach time now — there's no schedule to keep.

And the beach? It's practically at your doorstep. 🐚 Just a leisurely stroll of one and a half blocks down the hill and you'll feel the cool, soft sand beneath your toes and hear the thundering Pacific stretching out before you — miles and miles of uncrowded shoreline where you can beachcomb for agates, watch the waves roll in, or simply stand still and let the vastness of it all take your breath away.

On Beach Time isn't just a place to stay — it's a feeling. It's sandy feet on weathered floorboards, it's laughter echoing off cedar walls, it's the particular kind of peace that only comes when you slow down, unplug, and let the coast set the rhythm. Come for a weekend. Stay for a week. Leave with a whole heart and a promise to come back.

I love this place. The cottage is cozy, with big windows that catch the sunset, a fenced deck that my dogs and I both loved, a well-equipped kitchen, and the bed was super comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet, the beach is a quick walk away (although a steep hill to climb on the way back) and it’s huge and empty. Florence is a nice little town. The center, with restaurants and shopping, is a few miles away with lots of useful stuff (like grocery stores) in between. Yachats and Cape Perpetua are not far. When one of my dogs got sick on the last day and I had to extend my stay, management was flexible. I’ve adopted this place and hope/plan to return next year.
