About this house rental

Next to the Sea, Água e Sal is a beautifully restored century-old house located in Ribeira Quente (in Place do Fogo), 5 minutes walk from the beach. Here our guests can enjoy nature and tranquility away from the crowds, making it the perfect place to sleep.

The space:
The house has a total construction area of 180 m2, an uncovered garden area of 122 m2 and an outdoor hot water shower, plus a terrace with an excellent view of the sea. Consisting of 3 floors, type T3, it has two double bedrooms, with double beds (200m long x 160 wide, both with FlexiDream viscoelastic mattresses) one of the bedrooms is independent (Suíte) and has a complete private bathroom and a small kitchenette with a common area.
The other twin bedroom (with two single beds that we can convert into a double bed) upon prior request.

Fully equipped kitchen with fridge, electric oven, microwave, electric toaster.

Água e Sal is ideal for a romantic holiday, family or group of 6 friends.

Located on the steep mountains, next to the sea, is the beautiful Ribeira Quente, a parish in the municipality of Povoação, with 767 inhabitants, one of the main summer places, par excellence, on the island of São Miguel.

In its physical appearance, this locality is divided into two housing clusters, Ribeira and Fogo, each with its own particularities and specific interests for visitors:
“Fogo”, where family subsistence farming is still practiced, exploring the vacant land of the site, in the surroundings of the parish church of São Paulo, built from 1911 to 1917 and where there is a small bay in which Praia do Fogo is located , one of the best in the Azores
“Ribeira”, as the name suggests, is located at the convergence of Ribeira dos Tambores with the sea, where the large fishing community lives from the sea, concentrating their homes around Porto. The fishing community is still mostly young, which gives us a dimension of what fishing continues to represent for this parish, as a bet on the present and the future, as large investments were made in the Port of this location, making it one of the best of the Azores. This port is also an important landmark for the parish's tourism development, with regard to whale watching and sport fishing activities.

Still in this area, the parish has an avenue facing the sea over 1 km long, constituting one of the main pleasant walking areas in the municipality and a beach with a paradisiacal sand with unique conditions, which every year attracts thousands of tourists and visitors to the parish.

It is also in this location that the "Festa do Chicharro" takes place, one of the most important summer festivals in the Azores, which usually takes place on the second weekend of July. The festival in honor of the Padreiro, São Paulo, takes place on the last weekend of September.

Fogo Beach:
Located in a bay of great natural beauty, with the green mountains as a backdrop, Praia do Fogo or Ribeira Quente has a small but very welcoming beach. Another attractive fact is the temperature of the sea water which, due to the existence of underwater hydrothermal springs, is always warm (Average water temperature in summer (ºC): 23 ºC, Blue Flag beach, security or surveillance and free shade) . Fantastic Beach with a bar with great food and vegan options at a very affordable price.

Watercress Trail:
Pedestrian trail that takes around 4 hours to complete. It starts at Porto da Ribeira Quente and follows a linear circuit towards the mountains. Medium difficulty, stunning landscapes over the south coast of the island, namely Costa da Povoação.

When arriving at Ribeira Quente via the road that comes from Furnas, it is possible to see several waterfalls amidst the vegetation. The beautiful Ribeira Quente Waterfall is one of them. Along the way, several snacks are available to visitors. Without a doubt, it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature.

Ribeira Quente is 8 KM from Furnas (15 minutes), known for its thermal waters, Poça da Beija and the Hotel Terra Nostra, consisting of a thermal pool with thermal water and a magnificent botanical garden, Parque Terra Nostra. It is also in Furnas that Lagoa das Furnas is located.

Ribeira Quente is a 1-hour drive from Ponta Delgada and João Paulo II Airport.

The Tourist Tax is due in the amount of €2.00 (two euros) per guest, per night, for the first 3 nights.

(Amount set in accordance with the economic and financial justification, from 1 January 2025, by this Regulation; Municipality of Povoação Notice No. 678/202572.).

This amount will be charged at the accommodation, at check-in, for each guest. Guests under the age of 13 are exempt.

Tldr; The very best rental I've ever had the pleasure to stay at! My party of 4 stayed here for 1 week during October - November crossover and the home and island was everything we needed to get away :)Luis left us a cute basket with wine, crackers, jam and such for when we got there. He was also immensely helpful leading up to the trip to ensure we had car rental, and shared with us the best local spots to see / dine at! Such a lovely host :)The town is small, quiet, and quaint - not much going on, but that was what we were looking for!The house was rustic and beautiful with amazing views of the ocean and a really cute vibe on the inside :) the space sleeps 6 easily (3 rooms - 1 with two singles, and 2 with a queen in each). There's a sort of separate guest suite in the basement with its own kitchenet. So overall perfect for families or friends travelling in pairs or more :) kitchen is also well stocked with what you need to cook. Relative to the island, the home is sort of south-east'ish of the islands center and easily can access all attractions in as little as 15min (furnas) and as much as 45-50 minutes (sete cidades or nordeste). You will need a car to comfortably enjoy your stay on the island, and be prepared for scenic windy roads ;) there is also a beautiful beach 2min walk from the home - highly recommend relaxing there!Overall - 1000% recommend Luis' home, and we will be returning again in the future here :) thank you for a beautiful stay!
