About this apartment rental
The apartment: This is a well-designed layout optimizing function and beauty. It's an ~800 sq ft accessory dwelling unit (ADU) built in 2016 and it comes with a good story. We lifted the original house to build the ADU and scooted the house over 5 ft so that the ADU would have its own patio with outdoor seating. It was a quite a spectacle! The result is a 2 bedroom apartment with a spacious living space and a full size kitchen.
Bathroom: There are 2 half baths with a total of 1 toilet. The summary near the title of the listing shows 2 bathrooms, which is misleading. We LOVE our bathroom combo, but we do not call it 2 bathrooms. Here's how we describe it. Our bathroom combo includes two separate rooms: (1) one half bath with a toilet and mini vanity and (2) another half bath with a shower with full vanity sink. Even though there is only one toilet, it is so helpful that it is in a separate room from the shower and vanity! You know who I'm talking about. We love this feature!
The kitchen: Fully equipped kitchen. Dishwasher, full size oven and is fully-appointed with cookware, utensils, food processor, baking sheets, etc. We provide a drip coffee maker, a French press, a pour-over and a grinder. We provide a few basic seasonings. If you have a favorite, let us know before your arrival, we're happy to add a spice!
There is a ROKU tv with Netflix provided. You can log into other services with your accounts if you choose. Free super fast wifi. See the amenities section where Airbnb tested it.
Both bedrooms have super comfortable queen beds. Both bedrooms have closets. We supply towels.
We provide a floor mat suitable for a child. Since the floor is concrete, adults don't tend to be comfortable on a mat.
There is a full-size washer and dryer - we provide unscented detergent. Natural unscented cleaning products throughout.
We have an Accessory Short Term Rental permit which is required by the City of Portland.
Follow the garden path to the left of our front stairs. It will lead to your patio and entrance. No stairs during this stay! We have a keyless lock, for which I will send you a private code for your stay - no keys to manage during your visit!
Guests have a private entrance and a patio for your sole enjoyment. We live in the upper house but because of the location of the private guest entrance and patio, we rarely cross paths with our guests. We enjoy the rare occasions when we do though! Maybe we'll be working in the yard when you walk by!
If you need anything, we're are always available through the Airbnb app.
Sellwood has a friendly village feel. It continues to evolve with new shops, restaurants, services and food carts moving in regularly. We find ourselves leaving the neighborhood less and less because most of our needs can be met right in our own neighborhood.
Need coffee? There are many local coffee shops within walking distance. Tea, instead? The famous Portal Tea is 2 blocks away. There are also bubble tea, juice and froyo shops.
Hungry? Within easy walking distance, there are 2 cart pods with various cuisines represented, and MANY restaurants along SE 13th.
Eating in? Our New Seasons Market is 4 blocks away. They have everything for cooking a full meal and also have hot nourishing prepared foods. And Grand Central Bakery has some of the best sandwiches around.
Shopping? Sellwood used to be famous for its antique shops. It still has some, but now there are many other shops, including toys, clothing, gift, spice and craft supplies. There's even an inviting shop dedicated to board games (Cloud Cap Games) with lots of games available to play in their on site game room.
This neighborhood is very walkable. One of the things I love about Sellwood and Portland, in general, is how much creativity is put into homes and gardens. You must be on foot to properly experience this.
PARKING: We live on a corner, so free on-street parking is readily available.
BIKE/PEDESTRIAN: We're close to the Springwater bike and pedestrian paths that lead north to downtown and east as far as Boring, OR. (Yes, there is a city called Boring, OR.) There is a fellow in the neighborhood who rents bikes for the day. He comes highly recommended by his customers.
PUBLIC TRANSIT: Easy walking distance to TriMet buslines and light rail stations. Check the TriMet website for route and stop details: (URL HIDDEN)
CAB: The usual, plus Portland has a robust Uber network for quick rides.
The apartment is a ground level daylight basement, or as they say in Chicago: a garden apartment. We live in the upper house. We are a family of 4 with a dog. We invested heavily in soundproofing but it is an older home and we did not achieve complete sound isolation. You will hear the dog romping occasionally and humans moving through the living space, you will NOT hear conversations or even voices. We've been hosting this apartment since we built it in 2016 and the pattern is that most people love our place. Don't take my word, read our reviews. Many have even described it as quiet, but at least one person was really annoyed by the sounds of our life. I strive to provide accurate information so that if you are someone who is seeking silence or is sound sensitive, you can recognize the mismatch in advance. You deserve to be delighted with your stay in Portland!!!
