The views of the San Juan Mountains are breathtaking, especially at sunset. Without the light pollution of a big city, you can revel in the astounding sight of millions of stars on a clear night.
This mountain escape is an adventurer's paradise, being centrally located to unforgettable hiking trails, skiing, hot springs, and rich cultural and historical sites. Within minutes of downtown Durango and the Animas River there is some of the best fishing available in southwest Colorado. Vallecito has a beautiful reservoir surrounded by mountains and is only a 30-minute drive away. Enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing, or spending a day out on the boat. Pagosa Hot Springs Spa (the world’s largest natural hot springs) is 55 minutes away and Wolf Creek Ski Area is a beautiful 1 hour and 20-minute drive to the East. Purgatory Ski Resort and Durango Hot Springs and Spa are just under an hour to the northwest. Take the Durango-Silverton train for a scenic ride to historic Silverton or spend a day learning about the Southern Ute Indian Tribe in Ignacio at the Cultural Center. The Sky Ute Casino is always a great time! Don't forget Mesa Verde National Park, a World Heritage Site, and International Dark Sky Park, it is just 55-minutes away.
