This is not a resort or a polished luxury rental—it’s a genuine retreat. We’re a family sharing a place we love, kept intentionally natural. Instead of manicured lawns, you’ll find open mountain terrain where deer, birds, and other wildlife roam freely.
To help preserve the peaceful environment and protect the wildlife, hunting and the use of firearms are not permitted on the property.

The interior is warm and inviting, with massive log construction that creates a cozy, grounded feel. It’s an ideal space for a romantic getaway or uninterrupted time with family—simple, comfortable, and intentionally removed from the noise of everyday life.
Seasonal Access (Important)
Winter brings incredible beauty—but also real conditions. A high-clearance 4WD vehicle is strongly recommended, and tire chains may be needed depending on weather. The gravel access road helps preserve the privacy and setting, but it is not suitable for motorcycles.

Overall a wonderful experience. The cabin was private, beautiful, and very clean. There is a huge collection of movies and games, and the kitchen is fully stocked. We loved the remote location and the roads were well-maintained, as promised. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed sleeping with the door to the deck open and the breeze blowing through. The views and fire pit were lovely and we super enjoyed the reclining sofas after long days of hiking and enjoying. Great central location. We were able to check out Wyoming, Montana, ND, the Badlands, the Black Hills, Spearfish Canyon, Mount Rushmore and more! Lots of awesome places to eat nearby, and everything you could need is right in town.The tricky stairs were no problem for us or our dog, but we are able bodied. I appreciated the warning ahead of time so we could make an educated decision. The only complaint we had was about the water. While we were warned that the smell might be off-putting. this downplays the degree of the stench. We live in a remote area with a well and have pretty flexible standards, but this sulfur smell was very strong. It seeped into skin and hair, and I cannot imagine drinking this water, even if it is safe. The well definitely needs to be shock chlorinated.With that said, the host did provide fresh drinking water in the fridge, which was a pleasant surprise.

The location was great, very remote and quiet.
The cabin was okay but the guest bathroom in the upstairs bedroom is locked and kept for owners own use, so we had to use the bathroom in the downstairs utility room, which was not good at night because the stairs are very steep and you need a light on to use them which wakes up your partner. Out side was a bit neglected and needs some care and attention.
However we enjoyed our stay but would look for a different cabin next time we visit Deadwood.
