House in Sayulita
Reasons to book
About this house rental
Internet: 50 Mbps download, 20 Mbps upload (suitable for video conferences, etc.)
The space
Comfortable open space with an interior garden under a retractable skylight, king-size bed, fully equipped kitchen, and wide doors leading to a small outdoor terrace garden.
Normally, the place sleeps two. However, there is a sofa, and if needed, we can provide a bed for small children. Small families are welcome.
Guest access
The bungalow—Casita Serenidad—is yours alone, including the main living area with sleeping quarters, kitchen, living room, and a small terrace garden.
Other things to note
Quiet use only—please note: The house is located in a generally quiet residential area, and we live in another house on the property ourselves. Please refrain from loud parties at all times, and respect quiet hours after 10 p.m. Please understand that even shouting and very loud outdoor conversations may make it difficult for everyone nearby to sleep.
———
While the neighborhood itself is quiet, the streets of Sayulita can be noisy, and our street is no exception. We are far enough from the party spots, but still within Sayulita. Very loud motor vehicles are very popular among both Mexican and expat residents, and we have no way to effectively insulate the Casita from that noise. The noise isn’t constant—in fact, there are quiet hours (or, well, half-hours)—and it usually dies down around midnight. However, if you’re looking for a quiet place where you can hear little more than birds, I recommend looking on the outskirts (the north side or farther from the center).

Amenities (in addition to those listed on Airbnb)
— beach towels
— coffee makers, including both French presses and actual moka pots (Italian stovetop coffee makers)
— USB power outlets, two on each nightstand
and more. Just ask
— LAUNDRY SERVICE ONLY: Guests do not have direct access to the washers (due to repeated incidents of damage caused by guests). We are happy to wash, dry, and fold your laundry for you between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., except on Sundays, free of charge.
Service
We offer complimentary cleaning approximately every other day at a time convenient for you (between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.). After trips to the beach, hikes, or similar activities, most guests find this to be a very pleasant feature. On rare occasions, this may not be possible due to illness or some other serious reason (we’re not a hotel with a large staff).
Wi-Fi
Strong and reliable internet access, with an average of about 50 Mbps download and 25 Mbps upload (see test results in the image section). Even during a power outage, access remains available for about 30 minutes thanks to an uninterruptible power supply for the router and LAN.
Water
For drinking water, we have a filtered water tap (dedicated faucet) in the kitchen.
Beds
Duvets instead of blankets (and honestly, there hasn’t been a single guest yet who didn’t prefer them over a wool blanket with a sheet). Choose between a king-size single duvet for two or two individual duvets per person.
Privacy
Casita Serenidad shares the property with the larger Casa Serenidad, a house for six (which, by the way, you’re welcome to check out if you’re traveling in a larger group). Aside from the street entrance, the two houses share no common space at all—you’ll have complete privacy.
(The small outdoor garden you see in the photos borders the larger garden of Casa Serenidad; it is separated by a waist-high wall and tall plants that block the view—but not all sound, of course. We ask guests in both houses not to host parties and to refrain from making too much noise, particularly at night. But of course, with six people in a garden with a pool, there will be some voices and some noise. If you’re looking for total silence, maybe this isn’t the right place for you—and probably not Sayulita as a whole, either.)
The property is half of a gated complex consisting of four houses; the third is Casita Los Grillos, and the fourth is where we live ourselves. Needless to say, we will never enter uninvited unless it’s an emergency.
Accessibility
The interior is completely flat—it’s a bungalow with a roll-in shower. However, please note that to access the bungalow, you’ll need to climb one flight of stairs.
Children
There are no special safety measures for children, but children are precious and most welcome. If you have any special needs regarding them, feel free to ask.
Power
In the summer (and, more recently, though rarely, also in the winter), power outages affecting the entire village or parts of it occur. These rarely last very long and seldom occur overnight, but they do happen. Sometimes they are related to hurricanes, and sometimes they are not. They can be a nuisance, particularly during sleeping hours when it’s very warm and both the air conditioning and fans stop working. We provide a sheet explaining what to do in the event of a power outage (and/or hurricane).
Insects
The house is surrounded by gardens, both small and large, and is located in tropical jungle, not in a city. Unless we pave or spray everything with insecticide, some insects (mainly ants) are unavoidable, especially during the rainy season (summer). We do, however, provide bug spray.
Noise
Please note that this is not a resort but an actual Mexican village. Occasionally, trucks from the 1950s or motorcycles with sawed-off exhaust pipes drive by, and since the bungalow is upstairs but faces the street, some noise does come in both during the day and at night. Also, at some point there may be construction work two lots down the road, and on rare occasions, people have parties in the neighborhood (we’ll try to stop them if that happens). As much as I regret it—if you’re really sensitive to noise, you won’t find peace here.
Check-in
can often be earlier than 3 p.m. If previous guests are leaving on the same day you check in, we may need some time to thoroughly clean the house. In any case, you can drop off your luggage before check-in time.
Additional Rules
It’s a quiet neighborhood, and we live in another house on the property ourselves. Please understand that we do not allow people in the house who are not registered as guests through Airbnb. Please refrain from loud parties at all times, and respect quiet hours after 10:00 p.m. Please understand that even shouting and very loud talking outdoors may make it difficult for guests in the other building to sleep. Thanks.
Air Conditioning: For both economic and environmental reasons, we must ask you not to use the air conditioning with windows or doors open, and to always turn it off when you leave, even with the windows closed. Please understand that in this climate, air conditioning consumes a lot of energy.
Please do not smoke indoors, even with the windows open.
Since we have had several such incidents: Please do not burn incense directly on any surface, including walls, plaster, cement, or concrete. Burning incense leaves deep marks on sealed surfaces that require repair; in many cases, this involves replacing large sections at a high cost.
In very rare cases, we may allow an indoor dog in the Casita, on the condition that the dog be kept on a leash as soon as our guest(s) leave the Casita but are still on the premises, and for the sake of our other guests and ourselves, that the dog remain quiet even when left alone (as some dogs continue to bark in that situation).
*************************
The house is located in a quiet neighborhood, and we live in another house on the same property. Please understand that people outside the group registered as guests through Airbnb are not permitted, and parties are not allowed at any time. We ask that you observe a nightly quiet hours policy beginning at 10:00 p.m. and note that shouting or speaking loudly in outdoor areas can also disturb the sleep of neighbors and other guests.
Air conditioning: For economic and environmental reasons, we ask that you not use the air conditioning with doors and windows open and that you always turn it off when leaving the house, even with the windows closed. Energy consumption in this climate is very high; we appreciate your help and understanding.
Please do not smoke inside the house or with the windows open. Thank you.
Please do not burn incense directly on surfaces such as sinks, kitchen counters, furniture, cement walls, concrete, wood, or painted surfaces, as this has been shown to leave deep marks on materials that require extensive surface repairs at a very high cost. As is the case throughout most of the country, please do not put paper or any other type of trash or hygiene products in the toilets, since they can easily become clogged, and unclogging them can be difficult and expensive—not to mention inconvenient for you.
