Whether you are looking for a couples' get-a-way or a place for the family to stay, Baker's Cottage is the perfect place to kick back and take a break from the hustle and bustle of life. We have a covered front porch for you to sit and relax while you enjoy your morning coffee. The sunroom and back deck offer a nice view of the spacious backyard and where you can listen to the peaceful sounds from the babbling creek. The backyard and creek are a great place to take a stroll, play games, cool off in the water, catch fireflies, or roast marshmallows while gathered around the fire. A gazebo overlooks the creek and cottage offering a place to play games or just sit and relax. The cottage is just a short 2 minute walk from the New River and only a 15 minute drive to the town of West Jefferson where you can find food, shopping, Mt. Jefferson State Park, and Ashe County Cheese. Various river outfitters are close by (10-15 minutes away) where you can rent tubes, canoes, or kayaks. Looking for a day trip during your stay: Grayson Highlands Park, Virginia Creeper Trail, Appalachian State University, Stone Mountain State Park, Tweetsie Railroad, and various ski resorts are all less than an hour away.
The original portion of Baker's Cottage was built in 1935. It has unique characteristics that make it a one of a kind. Most of the ceilings in the house are low, between 6'10" and 7' high. Taller individuals may need to duck when walking through doorways. Please note because of it’s size our cottage doesn’t have a dishwasher or washer & dryer.

The house was awesome! Great sunroom that I enjoyed the most. Best yard by far of any property we’ve rented thru VRBO. Only complaint would be not enough or convenient parking space but not a deal breaker at all. Bed was a little hard for my preference but that’s a me thing not a property thing!! Creek running through is nice. Love the sound of it trickling through. The house was equipped with everything we needed. We ate in all but one night and wished we had stayed in and not gone out after going. Very charming cottage. Close to the New River State Park - park access not far at all. We will definitely visit this cabin again when we travel to the mountains. We love the West Jefferson/Jefferson area the best! Thanks so much for allowing families to enjoy this special place!

Very nice area - the creek was a BIG hit with my grandkids- my only suggestion is the temperature in the home- older home so no central air- bedroom unit was not working but we contacted the host and they had a new window unit in within 2 hrs!! I would suggest a window unit in the kitchen- cooking was very hot experience- I think a window unit in the kitchen would also flow into the living room. We were there July 3-7 so very hot temps. Would probably not rent this house again in the hot summer unless another air conditioner but would rent again in the Spring or Fall! Love the older , rustic decor- reminded me of my grandmas home!!

This place actually surprised my wife and I in a very good way. Its just so relaxing, comfortable, clean, anything a person would need is there. Cottage has loads of character, through out the home you can see the special touches of the host. I like to say country with class. Early morning coffee, evening cookouts on the deck with creek running under, priceless. Wife said of all the cabins we have stayed in the past this is her favorite, and i'm in total agreement. Hopefully this will be our go to escape in the future.

The cottage is quaint, and the property is gorgeous. The creek running through the yard is so peaceful and creates the most relaxing days!
