We recommend visiting O Plátano do Rossio, planted in 1838! considered the oldest tree in Portugal, it is imposing and deserves to be seen by those interested in the natural heritage of our region; our Tapestry Museum and Tapestry Manufacture, our beautiful Cathedral and right next door the Municipal Museum of Portalegre.
Visit Marvão, the highest village in Alentejo (865 m above sea level), in the heart of the São Mamede Natural Park. At the top of Serra do Sapoio, it reveals a magnificent and historic setting of granite rocks and walls that encircle the town. Go down the mountain and then stop at Portagem, cool off in the pool or on the river beach of the River Sever. The host is very attentive and eager for you to enjoy your stay. We liked being in the country. The kitchen is well equipped and the property is very close to a big grocery store. I think this location gives you good access to nearby areas (Serra Mamede for example) well as the points of interest in Portalegre. We really enjoyed the textile museum. Aida provided us with jams, oranges, and croissants for breakfast. It was a nice stay.
