So before arriving, when asked what time we would be arriving, we estimated between 11.00 and 12.00. As we couldn’t find the check in time on our booking we went for that and arrived about 11.30. We arrived to a warm welcome and help with our luggage from the car. We were then advised that check-in was 14.00 and our room wasn’t ready but as soon as it was available we would be able to check in. Well that was fine as we didn’t expect to wait too long and the reception area had nice big comfy seats while we waited. The receptionist seemed on top of everything so we were happy. About 13.00 a German couple arrived, they were obviously returning guests as the ‘senior’ receptionist met them and clearly recognised them. They were then shown to their room about 13.30. Fine we thought, perhaps they have different type of room booked. We didn’t actually get into our room till about 14.30 (30 minutes later than check-in) and we later found out that they actually had the same type of room as we did. So it looks like they arrive about 2 hours after us and got the first room available. This didn’t go down well with us. Anyway we didn’t want to let that spoil our week and I’m glad we didn’t. Our room was very nice with a large bedroom (with a fridge) and spacious bathroom with his and hers wash basins and a large shower. The hotel is quite compact but still has plenty of little places to chill out, in the gardens, poolside, beach bar, etc. It is a hotel with character, not a franchise, perhaps a little bit of TLC needed but it is open 12 months of the year so I guess they will always be due some maintenance. We enjoyed a couple of sundowners most nights at the beach/pool bar before dinner at the happy hour (buy one get one free). Always freshly made cocktails, lovely. We went half board but didn’t always fancy what was on offer in the evening (but that was our choice, not to eat there, so no complaints). What we did eat was very good quality for a buffet. Breakfast was consistently good with everything you could want. There is a small gate in the restaurant with a path leading to a beautiful, quiet beach. Its about 50 to 100 metres tops. There is nothing there so take water if you plan spending some time there. The water is crystal clear and the beach runs very gently into the sea. On the other side of the hotel is a busier beach with everything you need. The hotel will give you free vouchers if you want to use the pedalos or kayaks. You can also get street food and drinks at many of the huts here. Alternatively there is the small pontoon that you can use for direct access into the sea for swimming and snorkelling. There are a few shops and restaurants in the vicinity so there is plenty of choice. There is also a ‘Winners’ supermarket at the far end of Pereybere (easy walking distance). One thing I particularly enjoyed was that I could bring in snacks and drinks to my room. We enjoyed relaxing on the patio with a cool drink. Overall this is a great hotel that won’t break your budget. It’s in a great location with loads to sea and do in the area.

Beautiful resort staff are exceptional 5 star service, except for a few slight issues they swiftly assisted. The resort Driver tour guide Vikash is highly recommended for seeing and experiencing Mauritius like a local honest driver a great asset to Hibiscus.
