About this house rental

Located in the hillside village of Granaiola overlooking the town of Bagni di Lucca, La Balconata Guest house offers everything you would expect from a rural retreat. On the edge of the Garfagnana national Park its the ideal getaway for anyone wishing to discover this hidden gem in the northern hills of Tuscany. The perfect base for touring by bike or car with walking routes throughout the vicinity as well as a host of other activities locally. The Spa town of Bagni di Lucca with shops, bars and restaurants is a 10 minute drive, with the historic town of Lucca a further 25 minutes. This Traditional stone built farmhouse is set over three floors, Three generous bedrooms on the top floor with two bathrooms, a large lounge area with open fire and ample comfortable seating for all on the ground floor, and large kitchen and dining room on the lower ground floor with access to the gardens and outside seating and patio areas, fantastic views from the balconies and terraced garden.
We specialise in ensuring that our guests get the best from the region, enjoy the food and wine and simply have a great time.

The flexible accommodation offers short or long breaks, self catering only, for groups of up to 5 wishing to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of this beautiful property. We also offer advice on the best places to go and can tailor packages to suit each individual tastes. If you wish to spend your time in the museums of Florence, the thermal baths and health resort of Bagni di Lucca, eat the best of the local food, enjoy the extensive walks in the local mountains or simply relax and enjoy the sights we can arrange whatever you require.

We also have a fully functioning photographic darkroom and offer courses in black and white printing for those photographers out there.

We enjoyed two weeks in this beautiful house and agree with many other reviews. It is a high authentic Tuscan house, full of art and books, with a large, cool kitchen that is a dream for cooking, garden terraces, and balconies with views across the entire valley. Plenty of peace and quiet and a good starting point for (mountain) walks and trips to surrounding towns and villages. And on top of that, a very warm welcome and stay with lovely people. Highly recommended.

Absolutely loved my solo stay at La Balconata! The house itself is unbelievably stunning, full of a huge variety of books and art and decorated with great taste and care. Kevan went above and beyond in making me welcome and comfortable; couldn’t ask for a better host. Highly recommend, especially for writers, photographers, and artists who are seeking peace, serenity, and beauty in a place that great writers like the Shelleys and Byron once spent time exploring and creating in. And the extremely well-stocked kitchen is a definite perk!

A beautiful, period property, lovelingly restored, in a tranquli village. The house overlooks the Bagni di Lucca valley and has amazing views from a charming terrace - a perfect spot for relaxing and anjoying a glass of wine or a breakfast cup of tea o coffee

We've been to more than a few holiday homes until now, and this one is definitely best of all! Splendid location, stunning views, huge and beautifully decorated living room and kitchen, we couldn't stop making photographs of it, and they all look like 17th century paintings... You can easily go for (dog)walks from your doorstep, and there's a lovely restaurant a bit higher upon the hill. Kevan and his mum (who both live in another, separate part of the large house) are very nice and helpful people. Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful, rustic house high above the Bagna di Lucca valley. Charming bedrooms and bathroom on the top floor, comfortable spacious living room on first floor and huge well-equipped kitchen on the ground floor (worthy of a castle!) with doors leading onto the sunny terrace, perfect for dining and relaxing. Lovely views over the valley from all floors. Many thanks to Kevan, our helpful and friendly host. We would love to return.

La Balconata in the tiny village of Granaiola was stunning. Upon arrival the house was huge, clean and very welcoming. It was clear that the owners, Kevan and Maureen, cared a lot about making sure renters felt at home - and I can assure you that i did. Right outside the front door were excellent walks with the dog - leash free, as well as for mountain bikers and advanced hikers. Close by is the local restaurant where the food is of good quality and very authentic Italien. The views from the house were absolutely stunning overlooking the valley and surrounded by greenery. I stayed for two weeks where i spent the first two weeks working and the rest on seeing the sites such as Lucca, Firenze, Pietrasanta, Livorno, the mountainside and the beach. Our stay was wonderful wishing we could stay longer! If you're wanting a true Tuscan experience then reserve a stay at Bagni di Lucca. The rustic home overlooks a beautiful valley. Kevan has restored a 2,000 year old structure providing a Tuscan country home of years fone by. We thought it was superb. This is a place to experience older Tuscany. If you're wanting city life environment this is not the place. But if you're looking for a "tucked away" mountain retreat reserve it now.
