About this apartment rental
Tranquility for the soul, peace of mind, safety in our home, and outside, we all need it; the worldwide Covid19 situation has changed our life. The worry, the concern what next, is with us every day. Beautiful Montenegro is slowly easing back into life, but we have observed the Government is keeping a watchful eye on everything and it is done in a controlled way.
EcoHouse Risan Studio is a holiday home for our guests, we would like to assure you, it is clean and it is and will be constantly disinfected to be safe there. We have added extra towels for use, cleaning material is available.
Relax in peace and privacy, gaze up at the mountains, minutes from the seaside town of Risan, & listen to the magical nightingales. The spacious studio and secluded south-facing terrace is shaded by lush vines, has its own outdoor BBQ and spa-shower, free WiFi, air-con and satellite TV, and all modern home comforts. The Eco-House Studio peacefully nestles in leafy unspoiled Risan, on the beautiful seaside Bay of Kotor and embraced by the majestic mountains.
The apartment is fully equipped to a high standard, with a brand-new kitchen, ideal for a couple, and also has a sofa bed for a third person or 2 children. In addition to the outdoor BBQ kitchen and spa-shower, inside the Studio is a shower bathroom, fully equipped kitchen with large fridge/freezer, clothes washing machine, free satellite TV and free wifi. Eco-House Studio is 50m above sea level on the quiet hillside 5-10 minutes walk out of Risan town. The studio measures 30m square and the private spacious terrace is 35m square.
Guest access
The apartment is completely separate from the main house, with secure gated access by steps from the road which also lead to Eco House, home of your hosts. Private off road parking is immediately outside. The hosts' wide sun terrace with sea view is available to guests for sunbathing.
Neighbourhood overview
The Studio is in the leafy outskirts of Risan - a green oasis in the north corner of the gorgeous Bay of Kotor on the main road. It is blessed with ancient springs, woodlands, eagles, and rich birdsong, including magical nightingales. Risan is an unspoiled ancient small town on the main road around the famous Bay of Kotor with a bustling Sunday market under the fragrant lime trees. There is a beach for sea bathing, 3 great waterside restaurants, 2 supermarkets, a bakery, post office, taxi rank, and mobile phone kiosk. The Tourist Office is at the Roman mosaic site, and overnight visitors must register here.
Getting around
Eco-House Studio is 5-10 mins uphill walk from the centre of Risan. Private off-road parking is immediately outside. A private car is best for day-trips to nearby highlights such as the famous ancient walled city of Kotor 30 mins drive, glitzy luxury in Porto Montenegro by road & ferry, Crkvice at 1000m above sea level, with its ruins of Austrian forts. Bus timetables are limited. Taxis are available from the centre of Risan.
Other things to note
The road from the town is steep and not really suitable for campervans or vehicles much larger than a normal private car or 4x4. We are happy to arrange for additional cleaning for 20 Euro. Breakfast is not included.
Risan is among the oldest settlements in the region, with its fortress from which the Illyrian Queen Teuta fought the invading Romans in the 3rd century BC. A later Roman palace built here boasts the finest Roman mosaics in the country, open for visitors every day. Under Venice, for 500 years the area was also on the border with the Ottoman Empire and of the division between Rome and Byzantium. The Austro-Hungarian Empire took over after the Napoleonic Wars, building many fortresses and roads.

Our hosts Anke and James were incredibly warm and welcoming. The apartment even featured a filled fridge and bottle of wine, which immediately made as feel at home. The apartment itself is rather small for a family of four, but has a fantastic patio. The German-Scottish couple lives in Risan for ten years or so, and both know the Balkans very well. Highly recommended!

I received a very warm welcome from my hosts when I arrived. The studio flat is well-equipped and spotlessly clean with an en suite shower and toilet. The kitchen is great and you can easily do all your cooking there or have a barbecue outside on the patio. There's even an outdoor shower to cool off after sunbathing or head down to the local beach about (10mins walk) for a dip in the sea. Very reasonably priced restaurants are within walking distance. There's a well stocked local supermarket in Risan and also a tourist information centre where you can book day trips, hire cars etc. Local transport is easily accessible bus and there is a very comprehensive bus nerwork that takes you around Montenegro or to Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia. Local buses come through hourly.
We went out on a few day trips to Kotor, Budva, Dubrovnik, Perast and up into the mountains. The scenery is so beautiful and picturesque. If you're brave, take a walk up to the old fort in Kotor. It's quite a hike up (wear good walking shoes) but the views are worth it. Would definitely recommend taking a boat trip across to see 'Our Lady of the Rock' and the church on the island in Perast, (5mins by boat). There are daily guided tours.
The weather was wonderful. It was warm and sunny everyday.
I would highly recommend this studio flat for a holiday in Montenegro. You can easily spend all your time outdoors, which is what makes the private, secluded patio area a real bonus if you want to have some down time from sightseeing and sunbathing and just chill..!
I've already booked to come back.
