About this cottage rental

A D Barn is a stunning detached Dales cottage situated at the foot of Fremington Edge in the picture-perfect hamlet of Fremington which is within one of the most northernly Dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Swaledale.

This cosy holiday cottage is full of Dales character and offers a warm welcome with beamed ceilings and an inglenook fireplace with wood burner. The kitchen offers ample workspace and equipment to whip up some culinary delights and has a dining table with chairs to accommodate four people. The living room is spacious with comfy seating for four people in front of the wood burner. A Smart TV and free WIFI is also available for your convenience. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with a gorgeous stained-glass window and ensuite shower with shower cubicle, a twin bedroom and family bathroom with bath, basin and w.c.

Externally the cottage is lucky to have wonderful views from the terraced garden across the farmland to Harkerside. In the garden there is a bench, offering a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee listening to the local birdsong which is beautiful in the spring and summer months. Further up on the patio area is table and chairs to enjoy dining alfresco. There is secure bike storage and parking for one car on the gravelled drive, with further roadside parking available. Please note there are steps within the garden and to access the cottage - 9 steps to the front door, 4 further steps within the garden to access the patio at the top of the terraced area.

Please note, that due to the external steps to gain access to the cottage and the layout of the garden this cottage is not suitable for young children. As such we can only accept bookings with children aged over the age of 16 years only.

This rural escape in Fremington is a great choice of holiday destination for the outdoor enthusiast. A D Barn is based at the foot of Fremington Edge, with long distance walks accessible from the door including the Pennine Way and the Coast to Coast. There are also some lower-level walks along the River Swale or simply to the neighbouring villages. The area is renowned for both road cycling and mountain biking. The 2014 Tour de France route and the Tour de Yorkshire routes both passed directly past A D Barn, and the largest Enduro Mountain Bike event is held annually in Fremington. If road cycling is your thing, there are loads of routes to choose from, but a favourite is the 28 mile loop to The Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub in England. Or, if it is a short blast out you are after, attempt the route known locally as The Triangle of Death, a challenging but short ride! The Dales Bike Centre is opposite the cottage, offering bike hire including road, mountain, and electric bikes. They have a wealth of knowledge and will happily guide you to a trail that suits your abilities. Locally there are loads of bridleways and the Swale Trail which is a trail made suitable for families and those new to off road cycling, wheelchairs, and prams. The Swale Trail is accessed from Grinton, about 1 mile from A D Barn. The Swale Trail is great as it gives you access to a 12-mile route to Keld which is 70% off road.

Only a short walk from A D Barn is Reeth. This popular village surrounding a beautiful green which is surrounded by fells and amenities including 3 pubs, cafes, an ice cream parlour, 2 bakeries, gift shops, Dales Art Centre, post office and village store. In the opposite direction, and an even shorter stroll, is Grinton with a popular pub serving real pub grub, fine wines, and real ales. Opposite at the Dales Bike Centre, there is a fantastic café, serving great full English breakfasts, huge jacket potatoes, scrumptious cakes, and a range of tasty pizzas!

Slightly further afield is the market town of Richmond. Here you will find a Georgian Theatre, Richmond Castle, Easby Abbey a selection of shops and eateries. There is also the Station home to a cinema, deli, artisan bakery, ice cream parlour and microbrewery amongst other things. Leyburn is also worth a visit, with a fantastic weekly market, chocolate factory, lots of eateries and The Shawl, a famous walk leading to the impressive Bolton Castle. Hawes is a good day out. Take the scenic route through the Swaledale valley over the Buttertubs which drops down into Hardraw. A stunning drive made better by the abundance of amenities in Hawes including several cafes, pubs, and a brilliant fish and chip shop. Hawes is also home to The Wensleydale Cheese Factory, the Dales Countryside Museum, and Hardraw Force and Semer Water, which is the second largest natural lake within North Yorkshire.

Seamless communications prior to arrival: thrilled with quality of the cottage interior/ garden space and seating area. Very full welcome basket including all sorts of local treats plus staples in the fridge which is very considerate. Good eco considerations too. Location is perfect ; within walking distance of great coffee / food at Dales bike centre or local Inns but so quiet and nicely away from any hustle and bustle. Acceptable walks too Definitely will be back.

The property was in a delightful location with good views of the local area. It was clean and we especially enjoyed the wood burner. The hamper of goodies provided for us on arrival was excellent and a nice touch. Would highly recommend this cottage. We were fortunate with good weather as well which enabled us to explore the Dales.

Excellent cottage across the road from the Dales Bike Centre which also has an excellent cafe! Great rides from the door and a secure bike store. Cottage was very well equipped and there was a nice welcome pack on arrival. Everything was spotlessly clean and we would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
