About this house rental

Olive Tree is one of our three beautiful villas set in our spacious landscaped gardens which have been carefully chosen for their beautiful flowers and foliage, allowing for a private experience, with mature trees providing shade from the sun.

Our emerald green lawns give the opportunity to lay back and sunbath around the pool, or play a few lawn games.

The pool is a massive 20 meters by 10 meters, perfect for relaxing in or for the serious swimmer to get some lengths in. The pool is situated 30 meters from the villa and shared with the other 2 villas. Available 24hrs a day.

The villa has two bedrooms, one large double and a twin room with the option of adding an extra single bed. There is a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. Space to sit inside and eat or enjoy our outside patio area with gas BBQ for alfresco dinning.

We have a gated private parking spot for each villa. Guests are very welcome to enjoy our various gardens at any time to relax and enjoy the Cretan flowers and wildlife in perfect tranquility.

Our village is located at the foot of the mountain Malaxa, and has the feel of a traditional Greek village, yet only 4km from Chania. There are two local mini markets a chemist and a coffee shop. There is also a traditional taverna serving food and drink.

Meltemaki beach is 2km away it is a beautiful sandy beach popular with the locals. There is a fish taverna, perfect for experiencing authentic Mediterranean seafood.

There is a village bus stop 30 meters from the entrance to the car park, and a bus stop 1km away on the main road from Souda to Chania, buses run every 20 minutes from there and three times a day from the village bus stop.
Taxis from the center of Chania back to Crete retreat are around 8 euro.

Crete retreat is a family run business and we live on site so are available if needed. We are animal lovers with dogs, cats, chickens and parakeets kept within our own premises. Guests are welcome to arrange a visit.

In our opinion Crete Retreat is a perfect environment for people who wish to explore and enjoy Crete, from a beautiful and unique oasis.


Tourist Tax 2026

As of 1st January 2025 the Greek authorities have increased the Tourist tax from a nominal amount.
The new rates are set out below and will be collected on check in.

Our trip to Crete Retreat was fantastic! Beautiful grounds, quiet and very enjoyable sitting in the sun near the pool having a glass of incredible Greek wine. Rob and Rachel were outstanding hosts. We got to meet their whole family. Great family atmosphere and I would not hesitate recommending this property to others. Close enough to Chania city for easy access and far enough away for quiet tranquility. The Crete Retreat was perfectly located on the island for us to easily visit most of the island by car. Beautiful landscape and wonderful people. I would highly recommend staying with these wonderful hosts!

Very satisfied of our stay at Ian's house. The house was well furnished and clean. You have all you need to spend a cosy and confortable stay. Swiming pool is very large and you can relax in several seats around. The BBQ set is fantastic for a happy meal and easy to use. Ian is often available for any question & tip. The location is easily accessible.

The villa is squirrelled away in a nearly hard-to-find track in quiet Tsikalaria, near Chania. I used StreetView and Google Maps to find the location before I left the UK! The villa itself is pleasant, with two ample bedrooms with fantastic aircon. There's a functional kitchen, lounge area and a bathroom with a reasonable shower. Don't expect top of the range fittings or mod-cons...this is not that type of villa. For example, there's no TV. It is rustic, private and perfectly usable. There's a small outside dining area that is a big sun-trap and gets hot. There are two other villas on the complex, both set away from this one. You don't really hear the others, unless they have an Eastenders-style shouting match.... The grounds are fine and well maintained by Ian, who you do see often tending the grounds. The shared swimming pool is large, wide and deep. There is a small shallow area for smaller people, but this isn't that big. Two thirds of the pool are over 1.9m deep. It is a very nice pool with sunbeds around it on grass. You can have sun and shade as you want. The grounds are shared with Ian's three peaceful dogs and some cats. You also see lovely dragonflies and unfortunately some mozzies! Access to the national road is extremely easy - 1 min away. You are 10 mins drive from Chania and 30 mins from Kissamos. 20 mins away is the waterpark. There is a bus stop within a few mins walk. Ian, the owner, was very friendly and helped us when required. On-site wifi is intermittent, so I used 4G instead - it was very quick for me, just make sure you have sufficient data in your plan. There's a local supermarket called "AB" five minutes away which is really nice but a touch expensive. Lidl is another 5 mins away. In all, very nice quiet and rustic, so don't expect clean lines and mod-cons.
