About this apartment rental

Location is everything!

The Birdcage is a breezy and bright studio giving you clear views of the Koolau Mountains. With historic Waikiki Beach just outside the hotel lobby, the Birdcage is the perfect home base for exploring Honolulu and the rest of Oahu.

Double paned sliding glass windows greatly minimize the urban sounds of Waikiki, but let a lot of light in. An expansive roof deck on top of the hotel provides a bird's eye view of Diamond Head. There are lounge chairs for sunbathing and tables for alfresco dining. No one else in Waikiki has a better view of the sun setting into the Pacific. Kapiolani Park is just across the street and offers the Honolulu Zoo, Waikiki Aquarium, the Royal Hawaiian Bandstand, tennis courts, soccer fields, archery ranges, weekend art shows and the city's Sunset on the Beach free concerts and movies - all this in its 500 green acres.

One of the main reasons for coming to Hawaii is of course the sun and sand. Surfing, stand up board paddling, outrigger canoeing, swimming and simply lounging on the beach are all just a few steps from the Birdcage.

Hawaii is the crossroads of the Pacific and its culinary offerings reflect that abundantly, so while the Birdcage has a kitchen and microwave, you are a short walk away from countless cafes and restaurants catering to every taste and price range. Similarly, if you can get yourself out of the water and away from the beach there is a lot of shopping to be done in Waikiki, and the many other shopping venues just a short drive away.

The Birdcage is at the end of Waikiki. Kapahulu Avenue provides easy access to the freeway, and makes getting in and out of the area very easy because you avoid all the traffic in the heart of Waikiki. This is perfect for when you decide to explore the rest that Oahu has to offer.

Loved the kitchenette, though at the back of fridge some of the veggies froze. Maybe the dial needs to show perfect setting. Loved the interior, very pleasant decoration, many drawers and closet to hang clothing. The parking spot #6 was ideal next to entrance to the elevators. Friendly front desk. Could not have asked for more, 1/2 block from the ocean at the more quiet end of Waikiki Beach

This place just wasn’t for us. The location was close to the beach, but that was the only thing that I would give this a 10. In my opinion, this place is best for three maybe four nights or less. We were here for nine nights, and that was a lot for this place. We really needed a kitchen with better amenities. There was no dishwasher or disposal, which makes it hard to cook meals. Leftover food scraped into a garbage brings bugs. The refrigerator was too small. The parking is very expensive and for nine nights you need a car. I can’t imagine just staying in Waikiki that whole time. Public transportation while carrying beach chairs and towels to explore other beaches is just not possible. The check-in was very slow and there was only one person ahead of me. There was soap left over in the shower from the previous guest, which starts off the trip on a sour note. The cleaning service was prompt and corrected the situation, but you can’t un-see old soap with hair on it. I’ve stayed at many VRBO properties and I definitely would not to return. The view from this unit is not great, but if you go to the 10th floor, you can visit the sun deck which has a fantastic view. Too much noise when you open the window so using the AC was a must.
