About this house rental
Granaio is a tiny village composed of four groups of houses and a little church on top of a hill in the heart of Chianti, near Castellina.
It used to be a farm village but the houses have all been restored as holiday houses and now there is a swimming pool with a fantastic view over the hills and a tennis court.
It is a very quiet and peaceful place, at Granaio you can read, paint, swim or play tennis, go for walks or go sightseeing along the old Chianti road. Siena and S.Gimignano are less than 30 minutes away, Florence and Volterra less than an hour’s drive.
At Granaio you will need a car, so you can either come by car or rent one at the airport when you arrive. The nearest shopping centre is at Poggibonsi, which is 7 Km. away from the village.

- 2 bedrooms (one with a double bed, the other with a single bed and a buck bed)
- 1 bathroom
- 1 sitting room with fireplace
- 1 dining room/kitchen
- 1 private garden at the back
How to reach Granaio from Pisa Airport: 1)Follow the signs to Florence. Before you arrive in Florence take the Autostrada (motorway) “A1” Milano-Roma and go towards Roma. You leave it, soon after, at the exit “Firenze Impruneta”. As soon as you are out of the motorway you turn right towards SIENA (Superstrada, not a motorway but a dual-carriage fast road).
2) Follow this road for about 30 Km and exit at POGGIBONSI NORD. At the roundabout go towards “Poggibonsi centro”. Go straight on for less than 1 Km. and then turn left on the VIA CHIANTIGIANA (it is not a big road). Follow the Via Chiantigiana for about 7 Km.. You will see a (beautiful) church called “Cedda” on your right, then the “Chianti Melini’s farm”, again on your right. Slow down now, after 300 m. turn left on the next gravel road located at the side of a curve. Follow this road for 2 Km. and you will soon see “Granaio”.

Lovely quiet place in the countryside but still close to everything. Enjoyed exploring the towns and wineries nearby. Lots of great restaurants around where we had some very memorable meals.

This is a perfect property for a couple or small family. The directions Alessandra provided (including pictures) and instructions on how to self-check-in were perfect. The localita road to Granaio is a little bumpy, and on reflection we would have hired a car with slightly better suspension to a Fiat Panda. That said, it wasn't a difficult drive.
The house is well appointed and the kitchen particularly has everything you need for cooking full meals is that's what want to do (as I did).
Alessandra is a wonderful host and was happy to answer all my daft questions via WhatsApp while we were there.
It's worth noting that we travelled to Siena and Florence via train from Poggibonsi and this was both inexpensive and convenient.

We loved our stay at Granaio. It is located on a hilltop surrounded by forests, grapes and
olive trees. The “driveway” is a gravel road almost 2km long with a steep grade (1st gear as you near the top) arrive before dark on your first day. We rented a small car and had zero problems getting around. We went out everyday and mostly came back after dark. GPS worked really well and Alessandra’s directions were flawless!
There are steep steps from parking to door and steps in apartment. Wifi was a little slow but you are remote and the trade off is the view!
The apartment is charming. Decorated with local things and gorgeous antique furniture. The kitchen has everything you need with washing machine. The bathroom is small but clean.
The pool looked nice, we didn’t swim but others did. The apartment has a lovely back terrace covered in wisteria and huge rosemary plants, olive tree and a walnut tree. We were visited by a gorgeous fluffy orange cat eat morning on the terrace who came and went.
This is a peaceful restorative place to stay. There are local restaurants within 6-7 km. We loved Castellina in Chianti for multiple nearby dinner options. Siena about 35 minute drive and many vineyards everywhere!
