The Holly House. Comfort and Stylish charm.

We enjoyed our stay at this property very much. It had everything we needed and was one of the cleanest places we have ever rented. We had three kids with us and they were excited to find gummies and chips waiting for them in the kitchen when we arrived the first night. It didn't matter that I had brought chips and gummies and other goodies for them; they were excited to find the ones at the rental...lol. The drive to tourist attractions in St. Louis was only 20 to 30 minutes, so it was definitely worth the drive to be staying somewhere out of the city. We would definitely rent this property again if we are ever in the area.

We stayed at The Holly House while in the area for our granddaughter’s High School graduation. The house was perfect for our stay. Lots of space and the bed was very comfortable. Hosts were wonderful to work with, also. Hope to stay here again next time we’re in the area.

To be clear, Holly House suited my needs. I needed a place to stay for a family reunion and a base for preparing meals for family gathered elsewhere. The home has been expanded over the years, which adds to its charm. It was comfortable, felt safe, the beds were good, and it was conveniently located. The neighborhood was also great for morning walks. The older parts of the house have a classic, mid-century feel to them which I know is typical for the area, and I don't mind.That said, the property needs attention. While its age isn't an issue, deferred maintenance is. Paint is chipped, the house is musty, and the large bathroom has obvious water damage, peeling paint, and a tub that needs reglazing and a deep cleaning. Some of the exterior windows were so dirty that I kept the curtains closed.The kitchen also lacked several basic items common in vacation rentals, including a whisk, mixing bowls, and more than one dish towel. The pop-up lid to the trashcan doesn't close. The backyard could use some upkeep, and the view from the rear bedroom includes a dilapidated garage with "Do Not Enter" signs. None of these were issues to call the owners about during my stay, as they reflect longer-term maintenance. The house met my needs, but its overall condition was disappointing. I'm not particularly fussy about where I stay, yet I will likely choose another property when I return to Belleville next year.
