About this house rental
Wye Sass sits high above Wye River, with the ocean in view from almost every room. Inside, it’s bold and architectural, with bright, playful colour throughout. When the weather rolls in off the Southern Ocean, underfloor heating and an open wood fire keep the house warm.
The smart-home features are optional. Regular switches and remotes work throughout, so you don’t need an Apple device or Siri. The 65-inch Samsung TV has Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. If a previous guest has signed out of the house accounts, you may need to sign in with your own.
There are 30 outdoor steps from the driveway to the front door. Like most homes in Wye River, there’s no step-free access. The steps are timber frames filled with landscaping stones, so the footing can be uneven.
You can walk to the beach, the Wye Beach Hotel and the general store if you’re comfortable on steep hills, but it’s a substantial climb back to the house. If you have limited mobility or would rather skip the hill, driving is easier.
Dogs are welcome. Some dogs may find the stone-filled outdoor steps hard on their paws, so keep an eye on yours. If you’re unsure whether the house will suit your group or your dog, call our team before booking.
Two exterior cameras and a doorbell camera cover the driveway and front stairs, the back terrace and the entrance. They record video only, with audio disabled, and operate during stays.

While the views were genuinely beautiful and a standout feature of the stay, there were a few practical concerns that significantly impacted our experience.Firstly, access to the property involves a large number of stairs. This makes it quite difficult for guests with mobility limitations and is not disability-friendly. Carrying luggage up multiple levels was also quite physically demanding.Secondly, the internal staircase design is not suitable for pets. Unfortunately, our dogs’ nails repeatedly got caught in the stairs, resulting in two broken nails, which caused them considerable pain.Additionally, the external walkways around the property are covered with crushed rock. This surface is not pet-friendly and can be uncomfortable on dogs’ paws.Overall, while the scenery is a strong positive, the property may not be suitable for guests travelling with pets or those who require easier accessibility. We hope this feedback is helpful for future improvements.
