The Neighborhood:

The Watchtower is located in the small village of Waren Mill, just a short distance from Belford. Ideally situated on the Northumberland coast, but also with the wilderness of the Northumberland National Park close by, you really do have lots to discover.

Right on the coast, The Watchtower is in an incredible setting. You can enjoy long, quiet walks and energetic hikes through the countryside and along the coast. The area is packed with wildlife and even features a nature reserve close by, so birds like wildfowl and waders can be seen passing through in droves during the winter.

Belford has a thriving and friendly market square at its centre, brimming with independent shops, restaurants and inns. The Holy Island of Lindisfarne can be seen from various points around the village and is within easy reach. It’s an ideal base for those wanting to partake in a spot of fishing and golfing.

The Watchtower is just a short 5-minute drive from the gorgeous coastal town of Bamburgh. Here you’ll find miles of stunning sandy shores and Bamburgh Castle, which is one of the finest castles in the country. Standing on the Northumberland coastline for over 1,400 years, there is a wealth of history to uncover.

Getting Around:

The Watchtower is located within short driving time to beautiful areas within Northumberland such as Bamburgh, Seahouses and Beadnell. There are excellent travel links as the apartment is only a short distance from the A1.

The closest train station is Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is roughly a 25-minute drive from The Watchtower so local towns in Northumberland can easily be reached via rail.

There are a number of bus stops throughout Belford. Hop on the 418 service to explore Bamburgh, Beadnell, Alnwick and Alnmouth amongst others. The X18 route travels between Newcastle and Berwick upon Tweed with stops in Morpeth, Amble and Seahorses.

This property is just as described. It has great views over the birding sanctuary. While it is a bit out of town, it is close enough to explore this coast easily and have a quiet place to relax in between excursions. There is a lift to the first floor where the apartment is and there are stairs inside the apartment to the living and kitchen area. The small bathroom has a shower and the larger bathroom has a tub. We enjoyed our stay and recommend it to others.

The apartment is charming, atop the watchtower in a restored mill, & the main living-room/kitchen is lovely, with sloping ceilings, dormer windows & huge fridge & plenty of seating. The bedrooms are pleasant, especially the main one, with lovely views across the bay to Holy Island. The kitchen is reasonably well-stocked. However, no-one bothered to turn on the heating before we arrived (nor leave any sort of welcome tray, never mind anything Xmassy) so we arrived to stone-coldness. We had to fiddle with the heating to discover the heaters in 2 bedrooms didn't work properly/at all; the dishwasher was broken down (seal had fallen off); the bathroom window handle had fallen off so it couldn't be closed; both toilets 'rushed' so one had to lift off the lids & fiddle about to close them; the cooker extractor fan & light didn't work. This created a depressing 'owners don't care' feeling, set up by the lack of a welcome of any sort. A sign where to leave rubbish was almost impossible to understand - again, carelessness. Only 2 rolls of the most meagre 'budget' toilet paper were provided. All rather disheartening & I found myself wasting day after day messaging the agents (for fear of being blamed for things breaking down). They eventually got fixed (bar the cooker) but that was a week into our 11 days. So hopefully the owners will spend a few hundred quid & sort all that out. Because as I say it's potentially really charming - & in summer most of those things would matter less.
