Welcome to the Chestnut House. This recently renovated riverfront home is a blend of historic charm and modern elegance. Originally built in 1926 as a log cabin made of real chestnut, it has since been used as a US Post office, country market, and later a house in 1936. The home is nestled between the Cardinal and Little Priest mountains in the Blue Ridge Range and the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest.
The main attraction of the Chestnut House is the outdoors. Just a step away from the back door is the Piney River. Enjoy the sounds of this rushing river from the beautiful sundeck furnished with Adirondak chairs, or the picnic tables, rock fire-pit, or hammock. This two-story cottage offers scenic river and mountain views, a wood stove, chef’s kitchen, and sleeping accommodations for up to six guests. Open the windows and enjoy the sounds of the rushing Piney River and nature throughout the house.
A fun fact about the home: Growing on the side of the home facing the river is a very old, almost extinct, American Chestnut Tree. This is why we call it the “Chestnut House”.
Lastly, don’t forget your fishing rods! Native brook trout and wild brown trout populate the river.

What a wonderfully appointed respite. If you’re looking to unwind, be with people you love, and get centered…this is the place. I hesitate to tell you how lovely & welcoming Maria & Randy are because this will become a popular place to be. All the nice little touches, you forgot your toothbrush, no problem, you forgot to bring a book to read, no problem, you forgot a game to play, like I said no problem. It’s all there, just bring yourselves and let the sound of The Piney River soothe your soul. Enjoy!

It is a beautiful place,we have passed it for years going in and out of the George Washington National Forest,we always thought how nice it would be to stay there.We found out that it was a VRBO but we didn't know that it had been completely restored, the inside and outside are both somewhat rustic looking in a way but everything is very modern, the host was great to deal with and we have actually booked the place again for late October, check it out, you'll be glad that you did.

We loved our stay along the Piney River. We booked this property for Liberty University's graduation weekend. We were concerned about the distance from the school but this house was worth the drive. It is a beautifully remodeled home with plenty of space to stretch out in the living room or sit around the kitchen table. Sitting on the deck right along the river was the perfect way to relax after a busy weekend schedule. The owners thought of all the amenities you might need and provided for a very clean and comfortable stay. The owners also were very understanding and responsive to any questions we had.

Beautiful house right on the river. We had an amazing time just sitting outside listening to the sound of the water rolling by. Inside, the house is impeccable with everything you need to spend some relaxing time away. Our dogs were quite happy as well and were lounging by the river and exploring the property all day long. We will be back again. Thank you Maria!
