About this cabin rental
If you're looking to truly escape from it all while connecting to nature and making memories with your family, The Lazy Bear is the perfect fit and now offers Wi-Fi. This secluded cabin is located in an old growth forest on the northern shore of Upper Hamlin Lake and is within a mile of the Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Preserve. The Nordhouse Dunes is 3,500 acres along Lake Michigan's eastern shoreline and is great for hiking, camping, beach combing, picnicking and observing nature. It offers approximately 10 miles of trails and can be accessed at the Nurnberg Trailhead, just minutes from the cabin. Access to the cabin requires travel on a gravel road and a federal woods road(two track).
The historic districts and downtown life of Manistee and Ludington are a 25 minute drive in either direction.
This artisan cabin was recently built by the hosts using cordwood construction techniques. Enjoy the 17 acre property that borders the Manistee National Forest and affords unique wildlife sightings, fishing, hunting, and hiking. This area is well known for whitetail deer hunting and is very near the flight path of migratory waterfowl over Hamlin Lake. Enjoy views of the lake from just outside the cabin and find ease launching kayaks, canoes and the rowboat at the dock along the lake frontage. The frontage is not suitable for docking motor boats, but the Hamlin Lake Boat Launch is only a few minutes from the cabin. The cabin is positioned at the top of a gradually sloped hill and the lake frontage is located approximately 75 yards from the cabin. Access to the frontage will require walking down trails along the hillside.
The Lazy Bear offers an open layout living and dining area with a lofted ceiling and a fully equipped modern kitchen. The full bathroom offers a clawfoot tub and shower. The master bedroom offers a full bed and the large loft space has two twin beds and a queen Aerobed.
This unique cabin was designed with a modern rustic interior. The woodwork was sourced from the building site, e.g., cherry trim and maple ceiling. Firewood is provided for the woodstove and can be supplemented by electric baseboard heating.
Guests have full access to the cabin and property, including 5 single kayaks with paddles and life jackets.
The lake frontage is not suitable for swimming due to the vegetation that grows along the frontage and throughout the surrounding water.
Other amenities include a firepit, gas grill and outdoor seating.

Fantastic location, very secluded and private, just what we wanted. Great hiking options close by. The only 'complaint' is the bed in the master. Would expect at least a queen bed ; a full bed is challenging for 2 adults. The mattresses of the beds in the loft area can use an upgrade as well. Otherwise, loved loved loved our stay!!

I would like to share the exceptional experience we had during our recent guy's weekend stay at your property. It exceeded all our expectations.The modern kitchen and barbecue area were particularly impressive, catering to our love for cooking. We also found the house to be impeccably clean, remarkably spacious, and thoughtfully designed. The excellent Wi-Fi signal allowed us to stream movies and a football game nicely with our little portable projector.The secluded, wooded property offered the tranquility and privacy we desired, sparing us from neighbors and noise. We thoroughly enjoyed hiking and exploring and really liked the meandering path leading to the lake. Additionally, one of our friends brought his dog, who greatly appreciated the freedom to roam.The sleeping arrangements were also ideal, comfortably accommodating everyone, including the ability to isolate the individual who snores in the main bedroom. The upstairs beds, in particular, were very comfortable. The fire pit area was a popular gathering spot, and we were grateful for the all of the firewood providedFurthermore, our day trip to the beach at the Michigan recreation area was delightful, offering beautiful dunes, minimal crowds, and an unspoiled environment.Overall, it was one of the most enjoyable weekends we have experienced in a considerable time, and your property significantly contributed to its success.PS - absolutely use directions provided. listing says there is a TV. Sure would like to know where it is. Book when we got there said we were to put all dirty dishes in the dishwasher and turn it on when we left. Sure would like to find that dishwasher. That aside, sure would like to find the dish rags and dish cloths for handwashing and drying the dishes. The building is very nice, but not very clean (perhaps the people who usually rent it do not know how to wash dishes by hand. We had a couple rainy days and a screened in porch would have been great.
